Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV Bertone '72 1972

General description : Well maintained but some points of improvement Thousands of euros spent: ‘driven while being restored’ Imported to Belgium The 2000 GTV, along with the 2000 Berlina and 2000 Spider variants, was presented to the public in 1971 and eventually proved to be a successful until 1977. It was meant to be the successor to the sporty 1750 GTV, and though there were some other differences, the most obvious was the engine capacity upgrade from 1.8L to 2.0L. This classy coupe that was designed in co-operation with Bertone shows us what real Italian elegance and charm should look like. Following the success of the 1750 GTV, Alfa Romeo decided to give the sporty car a facelift and came up with the 2000 GTV which was in fact the same car, with a larger engine capacity than the 1.8L engine that was previously used in this coupe. The new 2.0L engine was praised for its durability and reliability, and despite its modest appearance of 2.0L and 130 hp, this Italian car reaches a top speed of up to 195 km/h and a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes only 8.9 seconds, which is fast for a car that weighs just over 1,000 kg. Driving it is immensely smooth: shifting between the five manual gears is a pleasure and driving this car is an addictive luxury. For these reasons, this car is a favourite among avid racing drivers. Not only is the car's success in its driving breath-taking, as Italians are known for, the design of the car is also noteworthy. Its curves and contours, the pair of round headlights, the tough-looking taillights, and the chrome window frames, make it look very stylish, even nostalgically connected to the 60s, and almost cute due to its size. The interior complements this design like an inseparable pair: the very comfortable semi-racing seats enhance the pleasant handling, and the wooden steering wheel with the gear lever aimed towards the driver provide a unique driving experience. In total, only 37,459 2000 GTV’s were built, and over the years, many have ended up in scrapyards. Unfortunately, there is also quite a few that have been completely modified to the point where they no longer come close to the car they once were. Therefore, an authentic 2000 GTV has become very rare, and those who get the chance to get their hands on an original model should seize the opportunity.
