Der betont konservativ gestaltete BMW 503 mit Aluminium-Karosserie und elktrischen Fensterhebern wurde, genau wie der viel auffälligere BMW 507, auf der IAA im September 1955 vorgestellt. Gedacht war das damals teuerste Fahrzeug von BMW als eleganter Reisesportwagen. Der hausintern begonnene Entwurf wurde von Albrecht Graf Görtz - dem Designer des BMW 507 - lediglich fertiggestellt. Auffällig war die extrem lange Motorhaube, unter der ein 3,2-Liter-V8 mit 140 PS saß. Er stammte vom BMW 502-Motor ab, nahm aber bereits die Leistungssteigerung vorweg, die dem "Barockengel" erst später zugute kam.
Der BMW 503 wurde sowohl als Coupe als auch als 4-sitziges Cabriolet angeboten - wobei die offene Version bereits über ein elektrisch betätigtes Verdeck verfügte. Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit des noblen, schweren Gleiters lag bei glaubhaften 190 km/h. Das Luxusfahrzeug kostete jedoch rund 30.000,-- Mark und wurde vor allem im Ausland abgesetzt. Allerdings nur in kleiner, keinesfalls kostendeckender Stückzahl. Vom Mai 1956 bis März 1959 wurden insgesamt 412 Exemplare gebaut, 273 als Coupe und 139 Cabriolet.
Der hier von uns angebotene BMW 503 Cabriolet, stammt aus 1. Hand und wurde von einer älteren deutschen prominenten Dame in Madrid gefahren. Noch heute sind die original Papiere sowie das originale spanische Kennzeichen vorhanden.
Der Wagen wurde in der originalen Farbe komplett neu lackiert, die Karosserie ist jedoch in einem ungeschweißten Original-Zustand, das Leder wurde lediglich aufgearbeitet, ist jedoch noch vollkommen original.
Ein sehr schönes seltenes Fahrzeug, von dem heute lediglich noch wenige Exemplare existieren mit hohem potenzielen Wertzuwachs - als Kapitalanlage bestens geeignet -.
