For people who needed the space of a sedan without foregoing the power and speed of a two-seat sports car, BMW provided the exquisite M5 (E39) sedan. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this 2000 M5 which is one of the lowest mileage M5’s for sale on the current market. This two-owner, completely original example is one of the limited production M5s made between 1999 and 2003. We are selling this clean low mileage example M5 for a local friend who has owned this car for the past 13 years. The low mileage is indeed original with a matching clean Carfax and sold on an actual mileage Missouri title. The car has been serviced here locally at West County BMW and Plaza BMW over the last decade.
Made in BMW’s Dingolfing, Germany factory on September 23, 1999; this car’s first owners took delivery of it on November 10, 1999 in Florida. It left the assembly line with the following options – rear side airbags, tire pressure control, alarm system, sunroof, rear blinds, Xenon headlights, foglights, headlight washers/wipers and more.
Dressed in Titan Silver (code 354), the car’s paint and trim are in overall excellent order, with only the most minor of blemishes possibly visible upon close inspection.
The car’s bodywork is straight; its doors close with sounds that echo a bank’s vault and the jams are exceptionally clean. The engine bay is quite tidy, the battery looks good and the car’s body-colored bumpers are in great condition. This M wears Michelin Pilot Sport A/S radials, size 245/40ZR18 in the front and 273/35ZR18 in the back. Each tire surrounds a M65 alloy wheel. The tires are in very good order while the wheels look excellent and add some character to the car.
Under the hood is the mighty S62B50 V-8 engine. The S62 was BMW’s first V-8 engine to have variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust camshafts (double-VANOS). It produces 394 horsepower at 6600 rpm and 369 lbs⋅ft at 3800 rpm. The redline is 7000 rpm. Other differences compared to the 4.4L M62 V-8 include:
Individual throttle bodies for each of the eight cylinders, which are electronically actuated and have driver-selectable “normal” and “sport” mode throttle responses
Compression ratio is 11.0:1, compared with 10:1 for the M62
A double-row timing chain, compared with the single-row chain used by the M62
Hollow camshafts
Engine control unit is a Siemens MSS 52
Dual air intakes and MAFs
A semi-dry sump oil system, consisting of two additional scavenging pumps which activates during hard cornering
As per the M62, the S62 has an aluminum block and head
Backing that motor is a Getrag Type D six-speed manual transmission with 3.15:1 rear end and limited-slip differential. Driver convenience features abound – automatic climate control, Dynamic stability control, cruise control, servotronic hydro steering, power four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, power windows, power locks, power mirrors and power front seats with memory functions and heaters.
Inside, the car’s black Nappa leather (code M3SW) interior is in fine form and looks as it should with this type of low mileage. The black front buckets and rear bench seat show little wear. The matching carpet looks great, as does the headliner with aforementioned sunroof. The three-spoke M sports steering wheel, with multifunction controls, faces the driver. The instrument panel, with its fine wood accents, and inner door panels are all in fantastic condition. The center console has evidence of wear from previous driver’s right arms as they rowed their own gears, but the wear is not excessive for a vehicle that is almost 20 years old. A factory infotainment and navigation system with a six-CD changer completes the interior.
Competition to this M5 in 2000 included Audi’s A8, Jaguar’s S-Type and Mercedes-Benz’s W220 AMG.

Bayerische Motoren Werke, commonly known as BMW, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1916. Initially established as an aircraft-engine manufacturer during World War I, BMW faced restrictions on aircraft production after the war. In response, the company shifted its focus to motorcycle production in 1923, marking the beginning of its involvement in the automotive industry. Subsequently, BMW entered the world of automobiles in 1928 by producing the DIXI, essentially a licensed version of the Austin 7 from the Austin Motor Company.

In the 1930s, BMW began to establish itself as a manufacturer of elegant and high-performance vehicles. One notable model from this era is the BMW 327, introduced in 1937. The 327 was available as both a coupe and a cabriolet, showcasing the brand's commitment to luxury and style. Additionally, BMW achieved success in sports car racing during this period, particularly with the BMW 328. The 328, which debuted in 1936, became renowned for its performance and aerodynamics. BMW campaigned the 328 in various racing events, including the prestigious Mille Miglia, where the company introduced several aerodynamic specials.

The post-war era proved challenging for BMW, and the company faced financial difficulties that nearly led to bankruptcy. However, BMW managed to recover and rebuild, eventually becoming one of the leading premium automotive brands globally.

As the 1960s unfolded, BMW further solidified its reputation for producing sports-oriented and luxurious vehicles. In 1968, the BMW 2002 was introduced, marking the birth of the "New Class" of compact, sporty sedans. The 2002 gained popularity for its agile handling and performance, laying the foundation for BMW's sporty image.

Moving into the 1970s, BMW expanded its lineup with the introduction of the E9 platform, which included the iconic BMW 3.0 CS coupe. The E9 series showcased BMW's commitment to blending performance and luxury. In 1972, the M1, BMW's first mid-engined sports car, made its debut. The M1 was initially developed as a racing car but later became a road-going model. The M1 laid the groundwork for BMW's high-performance M series.

In the late 1970s, the BMW E24 6 Series was introduced, offering a combination of luxury and performance. The 6 Series included models like the 630CS, 633CSi, and 635CSi, becoming a symbol of sophistication and driving pleasure.

Through these milestones and a commitment to innovation and performance, BMW has evolved into a powerhouse in the automotive industry, maintaining its status as one of the leading premium brands worldwide.
