LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1
Buick made sure the GSX couldn’t be mistaken for anything else on the road, dressing it with hood and body stripes over the bright paint, front and rear spoilers, color-coordinated sport mirrors, a hood-mounted tachometer and several GSX emblems. This wasn’t just an appearance package, though. The chassis was beefed up with Buick’s Rally Ride Control Package (stiffer springs and a rear sway bar), power disc brakes and a performance rear axle with Positraction. Available only in Apollo White or Saturn Yellow, they were luxuriously equipped for a muscle car, they featured bold but relatively restrained styling and ultimately made people sit up and take notice of Buick, the more conservative brand in the General’s camp. In 1970, Buick sold 678 GSXs, a low number indeed, especially for a company keen on mass production and high profit margins.
Only 400 of GSX buyers optioned their cars with the Stage 1 Package which took its massive, new-for-1970 455 CI V-8 and added a high-lift camshaft, larger valves, stiffer valvesprings, a rejetted carburetor and performance distributor. Its 360 HP was stout, but it was the 510 lb-ft of torque that would rocket the car from a stoplight. Magazine road tests in the day saw anywhere from mid-14 to high-13-second quarter-mile times, strong numbers given the GSX’s 4,000-pound-plus curb weight.
This 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 offered here for sale was produced at the Flint, Michigan plant and then shipped to Fanning Buick Inc. in Chicago, Illinois to be sold. Factory ordered in the beautiful Saturn Yellow complemented by a Black bucket seat interior. The original owner ordered it with the Stage 1 455ci/360hp engine and it still retains its numbers matching engine. Other options include Turbo 400 automatic transmission, full length console, power disc brakes, power steering, Sonomatic radio, 15inch chrome plated wheels with G60 super wide oval tires, power windows, tilt steering wheel and instrument gauges with rallye clock. Under previous ownership, it underwent a complete frame-off restoration and presents today in beautiful condition. Since the restoration was completed, it has gone on to win many awards including AACA National First Prize, GSCA Concours Gold Award and was also invited to be displayed at the GM Nationals in Carlisle. Included in the sale is documentation from GS Historical Society outlining the options this car was ordered with, photos of the restoration, copies of the awards and more!
This isn’t your grandfather’s Buick, the GSX is a tire shredding torque monster!

About Buick
Buick, today an American automobile division of the American manufacturer General Motors (GM), was founded in 1899 as the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company, making it the oldest car make in the US.

To us, the most memorable models in Buick's line up have to be the late 40's Roadmasters and 60's stylish Rivieras with strong Italian influences.
