Description : Gateway Classic Cars Houston Showroom is excited to offer another "Boat Tail" Riviera, a gorgeous Sandalwood 1972 Riviera. For 1971, the Jerry Hirshberg-designed Riviera sported a new fastback look that took many cues from the C2 Corvette coupe's back half design. The design seemed to have a polarizing effect on the public, with either "love it" or "hate it" being the primary reactions to the new look. Fifty years later, the "Boat Tail Rivy" has developed a bit of a cult following and has become somewhat of a collector item. Good examples, like this one, are difficult to find. This very well kept '72 is in the color combination that it was born with, with Sandalwood (code 50) color paint, black vinyl roof (code B), and black synthetic leather interior (trim code 688) and black carpet. It is reputed to have the same powertrain that it left the manufacturing line with, a monster 455 CID V8 that's backed by a GM TH400 3-speed automatic transmission. According to the owner, and previous ownership information, the odometer reportedly reflects the total mileage on the car. We cannot validate that claim beyond dispute, so we'll just say that the visual cues seem to support that as being quite possibly accurate. Its current owner has made a few tasteful and function-enhancing changes from its "as built" condition. For starters, the 4BBL carb and matching intake have been replaced with a tuned FiTech fuel injection system and Edelbrock aluminum intake, along with the requisite inline electric fuel pump to support the needs of the FiTech. He also added a Wilwood front disc brake package with multi-piston calipers and slotted/drilled rotors, a high output alternator, installed a 3-gauge cluster (for oil pressure, coolant temp, and volts) in the ashtray, hid a Kenwood AM/FM/CD head unit in the glove box, swapped in a pair of MagnaFlow mufflers, and changed the wheels and tires to a set of polished 17" aluminum American Racing Torque Thrust wheels with Nitto NT555G2 low profile performance radials (P235/45ZR17 in front, P255/45ZR17 in back). These upgrades improve both the looks and driveability of this car, such that it's quite likely one could use this as a regular driver. The vinyl top is in great shape, as is the interior, which is almost like new. The hoses, belts, thermostat, and tires are new, which should provide plenty more miles of driving enjoyment. The A/C blows cold, and the heat blows hot, so those in the passenger compartment will enjoy a comfortable environment to ride in, as they admire the great condition of the interior. Additional features and options on this beautiful '72 Riviera include Power Brakes, Power Locks, Power Steering, Power Windows, Rear Defroster, Seat Belts, Spare Tire, and Tilt Steering Wheel. Don't miss out on your chance to score such a well-preserved Boat Tail - call or email our Houston showroom to make it yours!

About Buick
Buick, today an American automobile division of the American manufacturer General Motors (GM), was founded in 1899 as the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company, making it the oldest car make in the US.

To us, the most memorable models in Buick's line up have to be the late 40's Roadmasters and 60's stylish Rivieras with strong Italian influences.
