This 1972 Chevrolet K-10 Super Cheyenne is a proud member of the second generation of the K-series that held court as Chevy's rugged full-size, four-wheel drive offering for nearly 40 years, and has plenty of classic curb appeal and off-road surefootedness to go along with its powerful drivetrain and strong running condition.
Having had the good fortune to spend its winters sheltered in a garage and its summers out of reach of the damaging rays of the sun, this K-10 features a sharp orange and white paint job that's retained its vitality, looking great with its long stretches of side trim that separate the two colors. After more than 45 years of service, its body alignment is very much on point - you'll notice the even gaps surrounding the doors on all four sides, as well as just how level those stretches of trim are as they transition from front fender to door to bed area. The chrome throughout shows no major issues, and sits securely in place, and its badging - especially those denoting its special "Cheyenne" status on its sides - looks particularly sharp. A few well-executed modifications give this K-10 some added custom cachet, including the aggressive scoop rising up from its hood, a front grille where the deletion of the customary bowtie allows the surrounding chrome to pop all that much more, and the narrowed position of the tailpipes as they protrude just the right amount in back.
A very fresh and tastefully colorful interior sits inside the doors. The well-padded cloth bench seat at its center was just recently restored, and is surrounded by well-prepped steel and nice finishes everywhere you look. The shift lever to put this classic truck into 4-wheel drive mode is within comfortable reach just in front. This pickup's "Cheyenne" designation afforded it a more luxurious interior than its lesser counterparts, and the touches you'll find here add an effectively fresh take to that status. Just beyond the contrasting steering wheel with a Chevy bowtie in its center is a great looking chrome instrument cluster that now carries a full complement of white faced AutoMeter Phantom gauges, while just to the right, you'll find a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo ready to cater to your audio needs. Above, a new black headliner sits securely in place. The snap-on bed cover is in nice condition to protect any contents stowed underneath and, if you lift it up, you'll find the bed lining on this Chevy has done its job well, as there's no sign of any notable damage in back.
A 402 cubic inch V8 lies in the very clean engine bay to provide all the power needed to propel this truck forward with authority. Outfitted with a custom air cleaner, and a host of upgraded Edelbrock components that include its intake manifold, carb, fuel pump and water pump, the powerplant is in optimal form, idling very smoothly and producing just the right exhaust note out of its long tube headers. The 3-speed automatic TH350 transmission sitting just behind it shifts with plenty of precision, and with power steering and power front disc brakes, the street manners you'd look for in everyday driving conditions are present and accounted for. Should you yearn to stray from the asphalt into more rugged territory, this K-10's ample tire clearance combines with easily enlisted 4x4 capability to make for a surefooted off-road performer. Look below and you'll see that the undercarriage is reassuringly straight and solid.
