Citroen SM Carburettor, higly original 1972

General description : If you happen to dive into the history of the development of the Citroën SM you will discover one thing for certain: a glorious set of circumstances with a fantastic outcome. Citroën had been busy for many years developing a sporty version of the DS. Gradually Maserati became involved in the process and they decided to put a Maserati V6 plant in a front-wheel drive coupé. To accentuate its Citroën credentials they also fitted hydraulic suspension and adaptive, self-levelling headlights. Straight from the off the press were totally in love with the SM’s road performance and were equally amazed at the ease with which it navigated in towns and at speed on the motorway. Its versatility appeared endless. Our three owner car was supplied from new in Germany in 1972. The car is in a good original condition. The straight bodywork has nice and thin, correctly aligned panelwork. The paintwork is mostly original and good for its age. Clearly, this SM has always correctly been looked after. Due to low mileage and a heated garage, the car has never needed to be fully restored. To keep the car in mechanical good health it has been fully overhauled. The interior trim of black leather and grey carpets is completely original and has developed a lovely patina. The dashboard and instrument panel are also in good condition and working order. The engine, transmission and hydraulic suspension system have been fully overhauled. This SM is one of the last with carburettors. The engine develops 170 Ps and due to its extremely smooth aerodynamic properties reaches a top speed of 220 km/hr. The SM was always intended to be the ultimate Grand Tourer and to ensure you didn’t have stop too often to tank her up, she was fitted with a 90-litre fuel tank. Attacking your favourite bends is no problem thanks to the superb hydraulic suspension and short steering box. The SM appears to have an endless repertoire of tricks up its sleeve, so it is no wonder it is still a very popular classic. The documentation demonstrates the excellent care lavished over the last 48 years. The original service book and owners manual together with many invoices are present. Changing gear, steering and acceleration; this SM does it all as if it were only a few years old. We are sure this very authentic Citroën SM will keep you smiling for miles on end. Whether its a tour through Europe or a sedate trip through a charming little Dutch village, the symphony of the Maserati V6 together with the triple Webers transform every trip into something magical! About Citroen
French industrialist André Citroën had been building arms for the French army during WWI by the end of the war he was left with great industrial facilities but no product for the post war market.

In 1919 he founded Citroen that became the first mass-production car company outside the USA[3] and a pioneer of the modern marketing as well as factory backed services network. Mind you, even Eiffel Tower served as a billboard for Citroën from 1925 to 1934 -Mon Dieu, monsier!

Soon Citroën earned a reputation for innovation and revolutionary engineering. Staying true to their slogan "Créative Technologie" Citroën has many "firsts" under their belt:

Europe’s first all-steel-bodied car, the B10 In 1934.

The world's first mass-produced front-wheel drive car,Traction Avant, (also one of the first cars to feature a monocoque-type body)

The world's first hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension system, introduced with the revolutionary Citroën DS / ID models in 1955, as well as the first production car with disc brakes.

Swiveling headlights in 1967, and finally variable assist power steering in 1970

With Citroën purchasing Maserati in 1968 a door opened for a high speed GT-model that would compete with Ferrari, Aston Martin et. al, when introduced Citroen SM was the world's fastest fwd-car.
