Crosley Hotshot Roadster 1949

General description : The automotive brand Crosley was created by Powel Crosley of Cincinnati, who originally built and marketed a cycle car in the early 1900's. Unfortunately this project was decimated by the arrival of the seminal Ford Model T. Upon the failure of this venture Crosley set about making a fortune in the production of Radios, which provided seed money for his return to the automotive world in the 1930s with a tiny 2-cylinder air cooled car; however the outbreak of World War 2 saw Crosley's industrial abilities being harnessed by the military in order to produce vast numbers of a 44 cubic inch 4-Cylinder engine for Military Auxiliary power.The Engine was originally built with a copper brazed, sheet metal water jacket and was powerful for it's small size and light weight; Crosley saw the potential of the engine and in 1945 when he was allowed to re-enter private production he put the "COBRA" engine into his Crosley Road Cars.The Hotshot 'sports' model was introduced to the Crosley range in 1949 and became a car that would be the blueprint for a number of competition vehicles to come from the brand, including a car to win the 1950 Sebring Six Hours. We are proud to offer a true roadster specification Hotshot, complete without doors or roof, and benefiting from a recent restoration leaving a car in very good all round condition. The Maroon exterior is beautifully contrasted by the cream wheels and tan interior and this example also comes with a Crosley radio, chrome bumpers and a rear-mounted spare wheel. This is a fantastic classic that is a part of American history, but with real motorsport provenance that will be appreciated in the years to come.
