About Daf
In 1928, Hubert "Hub" van Doorne founded a company Commanditaire Vennootschap Hub van Doorne's Machinefabriek, if this does not ring any bell read on. In 1932, the company, now run by Hub and his brother, Wim van Doorne, changed its name to Van Doorne's Aanhangwagen Fabriek DAF in short.

After the Second World War, demand for lorries was peaking in Europe creating lucrative business opportunity for DAF that was now focusing on trucks and lorries.

DAF did however produce small passanger cars too. These were reknown for quirky belt driven continuously variable transmission that was introduced in 1958 when launching DAF 600. Other models using Variomatic transmission system were DAF 33, DAF 44, DAF 55 and DAF 66.

DAF passenger car division was sold in 1975 to the Swedish car manufacturer Volvo.
