LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1968 Dodge Dart GTS Convertible
The Dodge Dart was one of the most successful compact cars to ever come out of Detroit as it offered a level of performance and styling that was unmatched in its segment. New for 1968, the Dart GTS was offered with a 340 CI small-block rated at 275 HP and a 383/330 HP big-block. The larger engine’s extra weight, combined with the 340’s rumored actual output of 300 HP, negated the 383’s power advantage, making the GTS 340 a well-balanced threat to Chevrolet’s Nova SS. Technical goodies included a Carter AVS 4-barrel carburetor, low-restriction dual exhaust system with chromed tips, Rallye performance suspension and 5.5-inch wheels with E70-14 Red Streak tires. Twin hood bulges and a tell-tale contrasting bumblebee stripe mark this 1968 Dart convertible as a GTS 340.
This particular Dart GTS Convertible was built on March 25th, 1968 at the Hamtramck Plant. Factory painted in the highly desirable “S” code yellow back completed by a black power convertible top and black interior. It was factory ordered with the optional 340 engine backed by the TorqueFlite automatic transmission. As easily noted from its overall condition, this gorgeous vehicle has been beautifully restored and it is fully detailed throughout. Outside, the exterior is covered in its factory “S” code Yellow base/clear paint and uses the black bumblebee tail stripe to accent the black convertible boot and upscale black interior. The interior includes both bucket seats and a center console, the wood steering wheel, chrome pedal dress-ups, tinted glass and a remote driver’s-side mirror. The exhaust still ends in the chrome tips standard on the GT Sport package. This car also has power steering and manual drum brakes, as well as the A-body big-block Rallye suspension.
This fast, comfortable, and stylish Dart is an outstanding example of a rare muscle car that was built to be driven and enjoyed on nice summer days. One of only 271 ever to leave the factory; complete with a numbers matching engine and has benefitted from a very nice restoration. Included with this beautiful Dart GTS are the Galen Govier documents, Broadcast Sheet, Owner’s Manual, plus more. This Dart GTS would be the perfect addition to any Mopar enthusiasts collection.

About Dodge
Dodge Brothers Company, founded by Horace and John Dodge in 1900, initially produced components for car manufacturers. In 1914 they stepped into car manufacturing when introducing four-cylinder Dodge Model 30 with all-steel body and 12v electric system.

By 1920 Dodge had become the second biggest car manufacturer in the USA, unfortunately the same year both of the brothers died, the company in turn to was sold to Chrysler Corporation in 1928. Dodge found a niche Chrysler Corporation lineup above low-priced Plymouth and medium-priced DeSoto, but somewhat below the top-of-the-line Chrysler
