Looking for a mechanical beast? Something not quite civilized and definitely not vanilla? Come by MotoeXotica Classic Cars and take a look at this 1942 Dodge Power Wagon 4×4 Truck. This example was professionally built at a muscle car restoration shop as a shop truck and wears a Victorino’s Garage livery.
The green paint has a massive amount of patina that lends the truck character. The truck’s windows are in decent condition; however, the driver’s side window is cracked. The lights, however are in very good order, including LED taillights, the factory foglamps from a 1952 Mercury and a spotlight on the driver’s side.
This truck’s bodywork is solid and straight, the engine bay is tidy and the rear bumperettes from a 1952 Mercury really stand out. Dual exhaust stacks stand behind the cab. The truck rolls on Power King tires, size 9.00-16 LT. Each tire is wrapped around a black steel truck wheel. The tires are in decent shape while the wheels look great. Toolboxes rest behind the cab. The truck has a custom bed and new wood; the bed is date correct but has been shortened to line up over the wheels and wheelwells.
Under the vee’d hood is the original, rebuilt 230 CID flathead inline six-cylinder. The motor has received a full tune-up, a rebuilt carburetor and it breathes through dual exhaust stacks. Other features include all-new Painless race car wiring and a 12-volt electrical system. Mated to the engine is a four-speed manual transmission. All of the truck’s running gear is reportedly original.
Inside, the truck’s cab is a hodge-podge of materials. The bench seat looks like it came from a 1980s-era Cadillac or Lincoln. The carpet, headliner and three-spoke steering wheel are all in mediocre order. As is the instrument panel, with its cracked speedometer face, and inner door panels.
The civilian Power Wagon continued the lineage of limited production Dodge four-wheel drive trucks from the 1930s that proved basic four-wheel drive design concepts, primarily for the military. Mechanically derived from Dodge’s 1942–1945 3/4-ton WC series military trucks, the Power Wagon was introduced in 1946 as the first civilian production 4×4 truck. During its development phase, it was initially named the WDX General Purpose Truck, a name still used on some of the preliminary materials handed out by Dodge before sales began in March 1946. The ‘W’ was a continuation of the 1941–1947 model year series, followed by a ‘D’ instead of a ‘C’, because the civilian truck was a 1-ton rating instead of the Army’s 3⁄4-ton and the ‘X’ was added to indicate four-wheel drive, as opposed to all previous civilian two-wheel drive models.
Getting in the driver’s seat of this truck is a different commitment than most other vehicles. You don’t drive this truck to be incognito; you do it to be the center of attention. Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars and check out this truck today.
This truck is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 15,003 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!

About Dodge
Dodge Brothers Company, founded by Horace and John Dodge in 1900, initially produced components for car manufacturers. In 1914 they stepped into car manufacturing when introducing four-cylinder Dodge Model 30 with all-steel body and 12v electric system.

By 1920 Dodge had become the second biggest car manufacturer in the USA, unfortunately the same year both of the brothers died, the company in turn to was sold to Chrysler Corporation in 1928. Dodge found a niche Chrysler Corporation lineup above low-priced Plymouth and medium-priced DeSoto, but somewhat below the top-of-the-line Chrysler
