Ford Model T 1913

General description : The Ford model T. The car that brought motoring to the many. Henry Ford was a visionary. It was his dream to make it possible for the masses to own a car. In the days that car making was mainly a hand built affair producing a couple of dozen a year, Ford decided to take a novel approach. The Ford Model T was the first of its kind to be built on an assembly line. His goal of bringing the car to masses was an emphatic success. More than 15 million Model T’s were built by Ford! There were more premiers associated with the Model T as it was the first car to be sold worldwide. The myth goes that the car was available in any colour as long as it was black. That was actually not completely true as the Model T also initially came in other colours. Our example is, as it should be, black. This Ford Model T first saw the light of day in Canada back in 1913. It has a so-called four-door Tourer body. After arriving in the Netherlands in 2003 it was fully restored. During the restoration it was given a number of handy upgrades. The nice thing about this kind of car is that it is like an open book. You immediately can see the car’s condition. In our case that is thankfully very good. The black finish is wonderful and forms a lovely contrast to the copper elements. The woodwork like the frame, the wheels and steering wheel have all been finely restored. Whilst we can readily appreciate the precise restoration was carried out respecting its originality, things were done hidden from sight that no less improved the car’s appeal. Just consider the zinc galvanised chassis, axles and brake rods. Oil leakage was not considered to be a problem in 1900 and simply was an expected part of a car’s everyday life. These days it is not something you would want to have to deal with and, thanks to modern technology, unnecessary. To avoid. leakage oil seals were fitted to the rear axle and transmission. The engine was fully rebuilt adding valve seats and a water pump, ensuring good coolant circulation and effective radiator function. The brakes too were upgraded. It now has rear “mount brakes” making this Ford Model T stop a lot better than before. The base for the restoration was already very good, being a matching numbers vehicle. As much as was possible the upgrades were kept out of sight. This is one of the best running Model T’s we have seen in a long time. A perfect car for the serious collector or enthusiast lacking in time or expertise to do the car up him or herself. As it is in such excellent mechanical shape, the car would be a prefect candidate to participate in rallies like the Peking to Paris rally. About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.

Today classic Fords are extremely popular with enthusiasts and a great selection of classic Fords can be found for sale at www.ClassicDigest.com
