Ford Mustang 4.6L DOHC 32 valve V8 1996

General description : 1996 Ford SVT Mustang - Special Edition Mystic Cobra It's Green!  It's Black!  It's Purple!  No, that's a special order Mystic Cobra!  These cars were a limited release Cobra in 1996 with only 2,000 of them being built.  This is number 228 with a build date of 02/12/96.  It has all of the upgrades including the leather interior, sound system and of course that Mystic paint.  The paint layers from the bottom up are Primer/Black, the Mica crystals in suspension and then the top clearcoat.  This creates a beautiful display of Purple, Green, Root Beer, Blue, Hot Pink and more depending on where you stand and the suns location.  The various colors do not fade because the light coming from the car is refracted like a prism.  Sunlight passes into each crystal and exits as a spectrum of color that varies on how you look at it.  If you are still and the car drives by then the color changes beautifully as it passes by.  On overcast days it is often mistaken for Black.  At night when headlights hit the car you will see a strong pearlescent Green.  This special edition Mustang is a 1 owner car that has never been raced or wrecked.  It has been cared for very well and treated like a show car.  It has lived its entire life in Tarrant County Texas and garaged kept since new.  All of the services were performed religiously with annual oil chages using Mobil One.  The odometer stopped working at 103,000 miles but it has continued to have been tracked and 115,000 is a conservative estimate.  All of the exterior trim is in good shape and it is clear when looking at it the car has been taken care of.  The wheels look great and the tires were replaced less than 5,000 miles ago.  Under the hood of the car is a 4.6 L DOHC 32 valve V8 motor that runs extremely well.  These cars were very quick and this one runs great.  The 96 SVT Cobras were a corporate statement from Ford that they were a global car company and that is evident in where all of the components were produced.  The aluminum alloy block was produced by Teksid in Carmagnola, Italy who also supplies Ferrari with blocks.  These 4.6 blocks have supported drag racing motors up to 1500 HP so they were built to handle anything.  The forged steel crankshaft was prodcued by Gerlach-Werke in Homburg/Saar, Germany with 8 counterweights.  Random link fine finish chains drive the four camshafts.  The beehive shaped valve springs were made from oval cross section wired that was sourced from Japan.  The car has a great sound and the stainless steel dual exhaust system utilizes the fewest possible bends, a crossover pipe, catalytics and mufflers which are all original on this car.  The front brake calipers were by PBR Australia with "COBRA" cast in deep relief and finished out with a fine machined cross hatch pattern.  The cooling system was upgraded on the car and done by Ford per a technical Bulletin for hot climates.  The alternator and serpentine belt have been replaced on the car.  Backing up the motor is a Borg Warner T45 5 speed manual transmission that moves through the gears smoothly.   The interior is all Black leather and in good condition.  It does show mild signs of use which you would expect on a 96 but no major rips or tears.  The drivers seat has been relocated 5 inches back to accommodate more leg room.  The dash utilizes all of the original components including the white faced gauges and special ordered sound system upgrade.  The car also comes with all of the original paperwork, stickers, manuals, etc. Due to the low production numbers these Factory Mystic Cobras have proved to be a nice collectable car.  As time goes on they are only going to become more collectable.  Out of the 2,000 originally built it is estimated that a little under 1,500 are still out there driving.  This one has been well maintained and is ready for its 2nd owner.  It could be yours for the reduced price   of $12,500.00 $10,750.00!

About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.
