Jaguar E-type Series 1 4.2 1967

General description : The Jaguar E-type was produced between 1961 and 1975 and quickly became an established icon of the motoring world thanks to its combination of strong looks, high performance and competitive pricing. It received the famous accolade of being the "most beautiful car ever made" according to none other than Enzo Ferrari! The series 1 cars were produced between 1961 and 1968 and are by far the most valuable and desirable. The E-Types produced from 1961-1964 had 3.8 litre straight 6 engines and partial synchromesh transmissions, whilst the later cars made between 1965-1967 had an increased capacity of 4.2 litres as well as the addition of a fully synchronised transmission. The car we are pleased to offer for sale is a desirable Series 1 Fixed Head Coupe that rolled off the Coventry production line on the 5th December 1967. Being one of the last Series 1 cars produced it featured the larger capacity 4.2 litre straight six engine as well as a number of improvements that were built into the Series 2 cars that followed. The car was originally exported to the US where it was sold through Jaguar Cars, New York to its first owner, a Mr N. Mandeburn. In 2015, the car was sent to renowned Jaguar specialists Clayton Classics in Coventry where it underwent a full body off restoration. The project lasted over 12 months and consumed over 1,600 hours of labour and over £50,000 of new or totally refurbished parts. Around 300 hours of this time was spent on shaping and fettling the body contours to ensure the E-type lines were as intended by Sir William Lyons over 50 years ago.Almost 200 hours were then spent in the paint shop, carefully applying 4 layers of base colour before 6 further coats of lacquer. In between each stage, the body was hand flatted to ensure all blemishes were removed and a concours grade finish was achieved. The engine was fully stripped and cleaned prior to a detailed inspection of the original components. The cylinder head was pressure tested and checked for dimensional accuracy before being reassembled with heavy duty springs for increased reliability. A modern fuel injection system was fitted, and original engine oil seals were uprated and replaced. The entire engine was then rebuilt to exacting standards to ensure smooth running and performance as well as reliability. A new 5 speed T5 derivative gearbox was fitted to the engine prior to installation. All suspension components were stripped, plated and powder coated and upgraded Polybushes and Adjustable Koni shock absorbers were fitted to increase ride comfort and improve handling. The car also received larger brake callipers, uprated disks and pads, and Braided stainless steel brake pipes to improve stopping power and reduce brake fade. Finally, the car's interior was retrimmed in high quality Italian Red leather. Just under 200 hours of labour was spent on producing and fitting this handmade, bespoke trim, achieving an exceptional award-winning level of finish.Once the restoration was complete the car was sent to Topaz Detailing for full paint correction before paint protection film was applied to the whole vehicle. The car maintains a photo album documenting the entire restoration process as well as a Jaguar Heritage Certificate detailing the car's original specification. The Series 1 E-types are by far the most desirable, with this particular example surely being one of the finest to ever grace the market. Contact us now for more information or to arrange a viewing.
