Der Roadster wurde am 10.09.1988 an ein vermögendes Ehepaar im sonnigen Kalifornien /USA ausgeliefert. Sie fuhren den Roadster bis Ende 1992 und verkauften ihn mit etwa 20.000 Meilen an ein befreundetes Ehepaar ebenfalls in Glendora/Kalifornien/USA. Dort verblieb der Wagen für die nächsten 22 Jahre. Alle Servicearbeiten wurden ordnungsgemäß gemacht, wie man der History Mappe des jetzigen Besitzers eindrucksvoll entnehmen kann. In 2014 hatte ein deutscher, auf Mercedes-Benz R 107 Modelle spezialisierter Händler, den zum Verkauf stehenden Wagen dem Ehepaar in Glendora abgekauft. Er holte den 560 SL mit erst 53.228 Meilen nach Norddeutschland. Das Erscheinungsbild wurde den deutschen Käuferwünschen entsprechend angepasst, der so ungeliebte Heckspoiler und das dicke 3. Bremslicht wurden entfernt. Ein Traum von einem Roadster, schwarz mit grauem Leder, gepflegt und stets gewartet. Gerade die stärksten 8 Zylinder Versionen der R107er Reihe erfreuen sich bei Sammlern und Liebhabern klassischer Automobile größter Beliebtheit. Sie gelten als zuverlässig, langlebig und wertstabil mit Potential nach oben.
