A precursor of more sophisticated SUVs to come, the Scout was created as a competitor to the Jeep, and it initially featured a fold-down windshield. In 1980, the final year of production for the Scout, the grille was a very distinctive design, available with black or silver, a one-piece grille with square headlights. Power is provided by the I.H. SD-33T 3.3-liter turbodiesel inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Additional features include manually locking front hubs, a roof rack, LED headlights, air conditioning, a Custom Autosound radio, sliding rear quarter windows, and a replacement exhaust system. The black-finished 15" wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires with raised white letters. The front axle is equipped with manually locking hubs, and braking is handled by hydraulically power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. The interior has been fitted with adjustable front bucket seats upholstered in red and black synthetic leather with International Harvester logos embroidered in the headrests, and the folding rear bench seat is upholstered to match. The three-spoke steering wheel frames a horizontal 85 mph speedometer and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, amperage, and fuel level. Additional instrumentation includes an under-dash tachometer as well as a column-mounted boost gauge and pyrometer. Features include a color-matched removable hardtop, a cowl hood, custom pinstriping on various body panels, a black-finished grille, a roof rack, and a receiver hitch.
