Land Rover Series I 1 80 Inch RHD 1950

General description : Just arrived - a very desirable early Series 1 Land Rover with the Short (80 Inch) Wheelbase
This incredibly original Land Rover is a rare CKD (Completely Knocked Down) example, which was exported from the UK in component form and assembled overseas. The components were originally manufactured in the Rover Factory, Solihull, England in the autumn of 1950 and despatched to Grenville Motors Limited in Sydney, Australia on October 18th where it was passed to Pressed Metals Limited for final assembly. The Land Rover was then delivered to a garage in Scone from where it was sold to its first owner, Mr Pinkerton, a farmer at Green Creek Murrurundi, New South Wales. It was delivered with the rare Power Take-Off (PTO) attachment, which enabled the Land Rover to perform a wide range of agricultural duties. The Land Rover remained on the farm until the estate was sold and then went into dry storage for over three decades. It was subsequently removed from the proverbial barn and found to be in incredibly original condition; for example all important numbers match the Grenville Company Records, many components show the correct date stamps and the chassis preserves its factory green paint. It was subsequently sold to Belgium where a Land Rover enthusiast undertook a very sensitive recommissioning program.
Recently repatriated to the UK it is now in excellent mechanical condition while still preserving its delightful patina. Being an early 80 Inch CKD example with the rare PTO option and coming with a good provenance it offers an excellent opportunity to acquire a very collectable Series 1 Land Rover. About Land Rover
The rugged tale of Land Rover, born from the spirit of exploration and inspired by the legendary Jeep. Let's embark on a journey through the history of Land Rover, tracing its evolution and the iconic models that have conquered both off-road terrain and urban landscapes.

Act 1: The Birth of Land Rover (1948)
In the aftermath of World War II, Rover saw the need for a versatile, go-anywhere vehicle that could handle the demands of post-war life. Drawing inspiration from the Jeep, Maurice Wilks, Rover's chief designer, and his brother Spencer, Rover's managing director, conceptualized the first Land Rover. Launched in 1948 at the Amsterdam Motor Show, the Series I Land Rover was an instant hit, boasting simplicity, durability, and unparalleled off-road capabilities.

Act 2: Series Land Rovers (1950s-1970s)
The Series Land Rovers became the backbone of Land Rover's lineup. The Series II in 1958 and Series III in 1971 refined the design and introduced more creature comforts, while preserving the brand's commitment to off-road prowess. These models were workhorses on farms, military deployments, and adventurous expeditions.

Act 3: Range Rover (1970)
In 1970, Land Rover expanded its horizons with the introduction of the Range Rover. Combining luxury with off-road capabilities, the Range Rover defined a new segment of high-end, go-anywhere vehicles. Its success marked the beginning of Land Rover's transition from utilitarian workhorses to premium off-road vehicles.

Act 4: Discovery and Defender (1980s-1990s)
The 1989 launch of the Land Rover Discovery marked the brand's foray into family-oriented SUVs, blending off-road prowess with on-road comfort. Meanwhile, the iconic Land Rover Defender, the spiritual successor to the original Series Land Rovers, continued to capture the hearts of enthusiasts with its rugged design and unyielding capabilities.
