Porsche 356 Pre-A Knickscheibe Convertible 1954

General description : This 1954 example was supplied from new to the New York Porsche dealer Hoffman on the 2nd April 1954. This is a Pre-A with the characteristic ‘Knickscheibe’ front screen. The Pre-A is first of the 356 series and also the first Porsche to be produced in series. About 30 years ago in around 1988 the car was exported to Italy from New York, where it was driven until mid 2018. The car was completely and very expertly restored in the late 80`s. The bodywork is still of an exceptional beautiful quality. We would like to draw your attention to the perfectly thin and well-fitted body panels, quite a rare finding in our opinion! The soft-top has purposely not been replaced to show off the cars` remarkable quality. The perfect underbody is also original. The partially authentic interior has great patination. Finished in the original colour ‘Sandgrau 527’; this car represents an exceptional ‘Knickscheibe’ convertible in truly remarkable condition!

About Porsche 356
The Porsche 356 is an iconic sports car that was produced from 1948 to 1965. It is considered to be the first production car to bear the Porsche name and is known for its unique design and exceptional performance.

The 356 was initially designed by Ferdinand Porsche in the late 1940s as a lightweight and nimble sports car that could be used for racing. The first prototypes were built using Volkswagen components, as Porsche was still closely associated with the German automaker at the time. However, the final design of the 356 was a significant departure from the VW Beetle, and featured a sleek, aerodynamic body that was both beautiful and functional.

Over the years, the 356 evolved through several iterations, each of which added new features and improved performance. The early models were powered by a 1.1-liter flat-four engine that produced around 40 horsepower, while later models featured larger engines with up to 130 horsepower.

Despite its humble beginnings, the Porsche 356 quickly became a favorite among driving enthusiasts, both on the road and the racetrack. Its combination of style, performance, and handling made it a true sports car icon, and it helped to establish Porsche as one of the world's leading automakers. Today, the 356 remains a highly sought-after collector's car, with prices that can range from tens of thousands to millions of dollars, depending on the model and condition.
