Volvo P1800 1966

General description : Exterior: Painted last year in the original white colour. Bumpers are new, and also some of the outer chrome details. New rubber around windows, and in the doors, trunk etc. Wheels were sandblasted, painted, fitted with new tyres and new hubcaps. The car looks very striking on the road and a white car with red interior must be one of the best colour combinations for a Volvo P1800.

Interior: The Volvo P1800 has a completely new interior, new leather, door panels, carpet etc. All instruments work, even the clock is working, and I think I have never had a P1800 with working clock! Still original headliner and dashboard in good condition. Original Volvo seat belts come along with the car.

Engine: The engine has been rebuilt with new pistons and bearings. Most of the brake components are new and the brake servo is working perfectly. A wheel alignment has just been done which makes the car run very nicely and stable on the road. Fires up instantly and gives a very nice and crisp sound through the new exhaust. Very good acceleration and normal sound in gearbox and final drive. Receipts for the engine rebuild available. The car has been driven only a few hundred km after the rebuild.

History: This Volvo P1800S was produced in December 1965 and is year model 1966. The first owner had the car from 1965 to 1982. It was traded in at a dealership that became owner number 2 and then sold to owner number 3 that had the car until 2002 when it was taken out of traffic and came to owner number 4 that left it in the barn hoping the condition would improve over the years. But it did not, so in 2015 the car was sold the owner number 5 that started the restoration and worked on it until July 2018 when I bought it. And it was completed by my mechanic just recently here in April 2019. It just had a Technical Inspection here in Sweden and is ready to drive anywhere.

About Volvo P1800
Absolutely, the Volvo P1800 is a noteworthy addition to Volvo's history, often referred to as the "Nordic Ferrari" due to its sleek design and sporty characteristics. Here's an overview of its significance within Volvo's story:

Introduction of the P1800: The Volvo P1800 was unveiled in 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show. It was Volvo's first sports car and aimed to appeal to enthusiasts seeking a blend of performance and elegance.
Styling and Design: Designed by Pelle Petterson at Italian design firm Frua, the P1800 had a stylish and curvaceous design, setting it apart from Volvo's more utilitarian models. Its long hood, graceful lines, and distinctive rear fins contributed to its captivating appearance.
Pop Culture Icon: The P1800 gained further recognition as it was featured prominently in the TV series "The Saint," where Roger Moore's character, Simon Templar, drove a white P1800. This exposure elevated the car's profile and popularity.
Evolution and Variants: The initial model was the P1800, followed by the P1800S, which featured a more powerful engine. Later, the P1800E and P1800ES (a sporty shooting-brake version) were introduced, further diversifying the lineup.
Performance and Technology: The P1800 was powered by a robust and reliable 1.8-liter inline-four engine, providing decent performance for its time. Its mechanicals were considered robust, matching Volvo's reputation for durability and safety.
Legacy and Influence: The P1800 holds a special place in Volvo's history, showcasing the brand's ability to produce a sports car that combined Scandinavian reliability with stylish design and respectable performance. Its influence can be seen in subsequent Volvo models, particularly in terms of design elements and the pursuit of sportier variants within the lineup.
The Volvo P1800 remains a beloved classic car among enthusiasts for its distinctive design, cultural significance, and being an embodiment of Volvo's foray into the sports car market, presenting a different side to the brand's typically safety-focused image.
