Volvo P1800 P1800 in red with black original leather. 1965

General description : Exterior: Very nice red paint (46) on this Volvo P1800S. Good chrome on bumpers and other details. Also, all rubber and aluminium trim is very good. Choice of original steel wheels or a brand-new set of Minilite style aluminium wheels with new tyres. Two classic extra headlights up front to give you the authentic Roger Moore look! The car has a nice ride height and original mudflaps fitted. Neat mirror installation to avoid drilling holes in the body. Nice shut lines and original grooves on the rocker panel.

Interior: This Volvo P1800S is still with the original black leather in great shape. Only new foam has been fitted. Nice looking dashboard and all instruments are just perfect looking. And they not only look great, but they also work as they should. On a Volvo P1800S it is not always so. Rev counters are notorious for not working or not showing correct rpm. But this one has been rebuilt with the system and will work for the rest of this cars life. All lights inside the instruments are also working. And even the clock is working! Can you believe it? Original leather straps for the back seat. The trunk is is also nice and clean with a new carpet. All original rare items like the handle for the jack. Tools and spare.

Engine: The original Volvo P1800S B18 engine starts easy, has a great sound and feels strong. Also, gearbox and overdrive are working perfect. Good brakes and fully working original Girling brake servo.

History: Volvo P1800S had many owners, but the last owner had the car since 2014 and he took very good care of this P1800 and made sure that all those small details came in place. A full owner’s history in chronological order is available. A very thick binder with collected receipts of parts and work done. Even original registration documents from 1965 is in the documentation. A minor body restoration was done in the years 2001-2004 and then this Volvo P1800S was left standing until 2014 when it got a new paint job and got assembled. Normal maintenance over the years and the most recent work involves changing the seal between the engine and the gearbox.

About Volvo P1800
Absolutely, the Volvo P1800 is a noteworthy addition to Volvo's history, often referred to as the "Nordic Ferrari" due to its sleek design and sporty characteristics. Here's an overview of its significance within Volvo's story:

Introduction of the P1800: The Volvo P1800 was unveiled in 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show. It was Volvo's first sports car and aimed to appeal to enthusiasts seeking a blend of performance and elegance.
Styling and Design: Designed by Pelle Petterson at Italian design firm Frua, the P1800 had a stylish and curvaceous design, setting it apart from Volvo's more utilitarian models. Its long hood, graceful lines, and distinctive rear fins contributed to its captivating appearance.
Pop Culture Icon: The P1800 gained further recognition as it was featured prominently in the TV series "The Saint," where Roger Moore's character, Simon Templar, drove a white P1800. This exposure elevated the car's profile and popularity.
Evolution and Variants: The initial model was the P1800, followed by the P1800S, which featured a more powerful engine. Later, the P1800E and P1800ES (a sporty shooting-brake version) were introduced, further diversifying the lineup.
Performance and Technology: The P1800 was powered by a robust and reliable 1.8-liter inline-four engine, providing decent performance for its time. Its mechanicals were considered robust, matching Volvo's reputation for durability and safety.
Legacy and Influence: The P1800 holds a special place in Volvo's history, showcasing the brand's ability to produce a sports car that combined Scandinavian reliability with stylish design and respectable performance. Its influence can be seen in subsequent Volvo models, particularly in terms of design elements and the pursuit of sportier variants within the lineup.
The Volvo P1800 remains a beloved classic car among enthusiasts for its distinctive design, cultural significance, and being an embodiment of Volvo's foray into the sports car market, presenting a different side to the brand's typically safety-focused image.
