Buick Regal 3.8L V6 Turbo 1978

Allgemeine Beschreibung : This 1978 Buick Regal Turbo is for sale in our Louisville KY showroom. 1978 was the beginning of what we now know as the best performance car of the 80's. That’s right 9 years before the now legendary Grand National was released the Regal Turbo was released. Now a much smaller car than the previous year, the Regal was a perfect fit for Buick's highly advanced Turbo V-6. Other cars had tried to go turbo but unfortunately did not quite make the cut. The 3.8 from Buick had a revolutionary Electronic Spark Control or ESC. Instead of using water injection the new motor used a knock sensor to detect detonation and would then retard the timing. This kept the engine from destroying itself under boost. This 78 has been a southern car most its life. Bought new in 78 from a woman in KY it was transplanted a year later to TX where it stayed until it made its way back home to the Bluegrass. The underneath of the car is in excellent condition with no signs of rust or wear. The copper paint stands out and for being almost 40 years old it looks great. Pop the hood and the true story becomes clear, its boost or bust for this V6. The all original motor runs great, starting without hesitation it is sure to surprise your passenger when the turbo begins to spool up. The TH200 3 speed automatic transmission supplies power to the rear wheels giving the Regal an unbelievable feel for the road. Open the door and the red vinyl interior reminds you of a different time and place. It is inviting and comfortable which is not something that you think of in a 78 sports car but that’s what makes a Regal so nice and fun to drive. The dash is the next thing to catch your eye as the power gauge lights up as the accelerator goes down. Pinned to the floor the light says power and you hear the turbo start to wind as you begin to pick up speed. With the craze of the Grand Nationals pulling stronger than ever buying the car that started it all sounds like a really good idea.
