Allgemeine Beschreibung : 1963 Chrysler New Yorker Town & Country Hardtop Wagon One of only 1,244 examples made in 1963 Numbers matching factory RB big-block 413 CID V-8 engine with four-barrel carburetor Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission with original pushbutton controls Special order Navy Blue Metallic paint (code E) and black interior Nine-passenger seating with rear-facing third seat Original headliner, Airtemp air-conditioning, cruise control, power steering, power four-wheel drum brakes Documentation includes a copy of Chryslers special car order sheet and the original owners manual with VIN-stamped warranty booklet Station wagons, classic and new, are enjoying a sales resurgence and Mot Xotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this rarely seen 1963 Chrysler New Yorker nine-passenger Town & Country Hardtop station wagon. This particular example was built at Chryslers Jefferson Avenue factory in Detroit, Michigan on December 18, 1962. It was delivered to Harry McHugh, Inc., in Devils Lake, North Dakota.Finished in Navy Blue Metallic (code E), a special order, this wagons paint is in overall excellent shape with some minor paint and trim blemishes only visible upon close examination. The wagons windows are clear and intact. The cars lights are in great condition and the wagons bodywork is straight, including the tailgate assist handles flanking the rear window, the mini-bumperettes on the tailgate and the rubber nubs on the rear bumper that serve as step-ups. The engine bay is very tidy, the battery appears newer and the bumpers look fine as they wrap around the bodys corners. This New Yorker rolls on Hankook Optimo H724 radials, sized 215/75R15 at all four corners surrounding factory wheel covers.Under the hood is a RB big-block 413 CID V-8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor, breathing through dual exhaust and backed by a Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission with original pushbutton controls to the drivers left. Driver convenience features include Airtemp air-conditioning, cruise control, power steering and power four-wheel drum brakes. For 1963, all Chrysler models including New Yorker standardized on the shorter Newport 122-inch wheelbase. Both New Yorker and Newport trim level Town and Country wagons continued as four-door hardtops through 1964, making Chrysler the last American station wagons offered in this short-lived configuration.Since it was new, the wagons current black Jacquard fabric and vinyl interior replaced the factory turquoise color scheme. The unique front buckets with center cushion and folding armrest and rear bench seat are in excellent condition, as is the matching carpet. The original two-spoke square steering wheel original looks great and overall, so d s the contrasting light-colored headliner but it shows signs of some minor wear upon close inspection. The instrument panel, with a full complement of gauges look good. The inner door panels and mirror glass look great and the shift lever is satisfactory. The rear cargo area looks good and has a third row, rear-facing seat that folds into the floor. Completing the interior is a factory AM radio.Chrysler got a boost in sales in 1963 with the introduction of a five-year/50,000-mile warranty, a business practice that was unheard of by its competitors in the 1960s. The New Yorker used Chrysler's completely redesigned body with only the windshield showing traces of the previous Forward Look designs, although, under the skin, platform changes were near zero, with only a change from 12-inch Total Contact to Bendix 11-inch Duo-Servo brakes.Documentation includes a copy of Chryslers special car order sheet and the original owners manual with VIN-stamped warranty booklet.Competition to this Chrysler in 1963 included Buicks LeSabre Estate Wagon, Dodges Custom 880 HT Wagon, Mercurys Colony Park wagon, Oldsmobile Super 88 Fiesta Wagon and Pontiacs Bonneville Safari Wagon. This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 71,315 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title.
