Affordable honesty never looks this good. That's because there has been plenty of the right investments in this restored 1965 Plymouth Valiant Signet that include shining paint, a sharp-looking bucket seat interior, and a bold view of the distinctive slant-six motor.
There's a simple reason for a thorough and professional restoration on a car like this: distinction. This second-gen Valiant looks great with plenty of shine coming off the bronze paint. It's a modern application with a metallic element to really make it pop. Rivaling the paint for the shine are the bright chrome bumpers, new headlights/bezels, and complete trim package. The premium Signet line has a great pillarless hardtop look. You can really understand that Chrysler's designers took their time to build a detailed style. For example, there's a full-length crease in the sheetmetal that hooks around the front for a sporty sweep. This signature item also flows into the front overhang. That's pure style, and you get to see it so well on this crisply presented classic. It's a very vintage and complete total presentation. In fact, the only upgrade you may spot are a nice set of Rallye wheels, which weren't until a few years after this Plymouth was made. But they are so iconic with Mopars that it fits quite nicely in this total package.
The black interior looks great against the deeper tones of the bronze exterior. The fresh appearance in the pictures is no accident because this was all part of the compressive work on the car. So the seats feel nice, the carpeting is plush, the door panels are taut, and the dash is smooth. It really is a detail oriented presentation, right down to the working dome light and working Valiant AM radio. The gauges are crisp, the panels are bright, and the center console with floor shifter is a nice sporty detail. It's a true vintage experience, and so just like the exterior, any upgrades are subtle and worthwhile. The floor masts have a splash of color with their red Valiant stitching, and the wood-rimmed steering wheel lets you take proper control of this coupe.
The trim tag tells us this was born with the optional 225 cubic-inch motor, and so it's great to still have that displacement under the hood today. Mopar's distinct Slant Six really stands out in the tidy engine bay thanks to plenty of bold orange. You can tell the motor was also part of the restoration investment by the way it fires up eagerly and feels smooth out on the road. The three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and front disc brakes are all part of an easy driving package on this solid cruising classic.
