Pontiac Firebird 400 V8 1974

Allgemeine Beschreibung : VERY SHARP TRANS AM W/ ORIG ENGINE BORED TO 471CI, CLEAN INTERIOR, RUNS OUT GR8!

Not many classic muscle cars have come through the decades nearly as well as this 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. This '70s icon is looking good and running strong - it's ready to drive and packs serious power under its signature hood in the form of its recently rebuilt, enhanced original powerplant to go along with its undeniable curb appeal. It also holds a unique place in automotive history, as it's widely recognized as the last true muscle car offered to the public before the entire segment would become extinct in the face of rising gas prices.
The Trans Ams of this era were among the most admired and instantly recognizable cars on the road. Building on the success of the first generation that debuted in the late '60s, Pontiac held true to their "We Build Excitement" motto and created a lower-slung more aerodynamic look for their second go-round. As a '74, this Trans Am benefitted from some refinements made to the design over the previous few years - its more angled "shovel nose" front and slotted tail lights being just a couple of the styling cues. This specimen is clad in white paint that presents well - take a lap around the car and you won't find any major blemishes. The dominant Firebird decals gracing the hoods of the early to mid-'70s Firebirds were always a focal point and the one here is looking strong, still showing plenty of detail and sharp edges against its white backdrop, and the bold "Trans Am" lettering on the rear spoiler is also looking sharp.
A recently refurbished red vinyl interior sits just inside the doors and it's a definite strong point. The front buckets and rear bench seat sport new seat covers and, if anything, look a little more plush and well-padded than when they first left the factory decades ago as they loom above the expanse of spotless red carpeting. This upholstery job was very well done. The center console sitting between the buckets and the quarter trim bracketing the rear seating also have a fresh, new look to them. Just in front of the padded steering wheel, the instrument cluster features a textured silver surface, with the original gauges still sitting easily readable inside. The dash area in its entirety looks good - there are no tears in the dash pad and the vents sitting on either side stand ready to circulate air inside the cabin. This classic Pontiac is plumbed for air conditioning and a compressor is in place under the hood that, with some focused attention, will have this feature back online. The trunk area in back is in very clean shape, with its floor lined with clean carpeting and a new rubber seal sitting under the deck lid.
By the time this '74 rolled out, increasingly strict emission standards may have been tightening their grip on performance, but with the recent attention the original engine has received, there's plenty of power on hand now. The numbers-matching powerplant has been bored out an additional 71 cubic inches from the 400 it started with and features a 4-barrel carb on top. It sits in an impressively clean engine compartment with its chrome valve covers and distinctive air cleaner, surrounded by fresh hoses and neatly routed wiring, and it teams with a 3-speed automatic transmission and posi-traction rear end to make up a very road-ready drivetrain. Power steering makes navigating this head-turner a breeze and power brakes offer plenty of stopping ability as it prowls the boulevard on its 17" special edition Trans Am wheels outfitted with Uniroyal tires.
This 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am represents the last of a storied era and greets the present looking and running great. Call today!
