Checker and luxury in the same sentence? Why, yes! Checker made more than taxicabs. Civilians could purchase the standard sedan without the yellow paint and fare box or buy a Marathon Limousine. We at MotoeXotica Classic Cars are pleased to present one of those Marathon Limos. This one was built in May 1982, just two months before production halted forever at the Kalamazoo, Michigan factory. The upgraded fuel injected 350 power plant makes this one hotrod limo like no other!
Finished in a striking dark blue over silver with a matching dark blue half-vinyl roof, the paint and trim are in overall very good order. The car’s windows are clear and crack-free while its lights are haze-free and intact. The Checker’s bodywork is straight and solid, its bumpers fit well to the body, the engine bay is tidy and the battery looks new. The car’s half-vinyl roof, opera lights and opera windows are all in good order and add to the vehicle’s limousine theme.
The Checker rolls on Master Craft tires, 235/75R15 at all four corners. Each tire surrounds a vented aluminum wheel. The tires and wheels are in overall good order.
Underhood, an upgraded fuel injected 350 CID V-8 replaces the factory 267 CID V-8. The 350 appears similar to the engines found in Corvettes and Camaros in the late 1980s and early 1990, with the long, central intake plenum and finger-like intake runners and rear-mounted distributor. Bolted to this V-8 is a Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission and a 2.72:1 differential. Driver convenience features include Dual Frostemp air-conditioning, power steering, power disc/drum brakes, power locks and tilt steering column. The tilt column, gearshifter and ancillary stalks are also GM donors, they are similar to what was found on mid-1980s Monte Carlos and Malibus.
Inside, the Cab Gray velour seats and vinyl trim are in excellent condition, including the pair of jump seats in the rear. The matching gray carpet is in very good order. The inner door panels are in overall good order and they echo the rest of the interior’s theme while the wood instrument panel, with its Checker gauges, is also in decent condition. Completing the interior is a Sony AM/FM stereo with CD player.
Documentation includes original owner’s manual, instruction book for stereo, air-conditioning information, engine diagnostic chart and other, miscellaneous documents.
Competition to this Checker in 1982 included Buick’s Electra Park Avenue sedan, Cadillac’s Sedan de Ville, Chrysler’s New Yorker Fifth Avenue, Mercury’s Grand Marquis LS, Oldsmobile’s 98 Regency Brougham and Pontiac’s Bonneville Brougham.
So, if you’re looking for a new rolling conversation piece to take to a local car show or cruise night or a new way to take your entourage with you, you could stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars and check out this Checker Limousine.
