The recipe was a good one: take a lightweight car like the Chevy II Nova and stuff it full of small block V8 power. This 1965 Chevrolet Nova is a road-ready example of that formula in action. And yes, it's a real code-18 Super Sport!
First-generation Novas have a great presentation. The hardtop profile is pure American style, but in a lightweight size that has some European flair. This coupe was treated to an upgrade to bright red paint later in life. It's had a few miles since then, but this red gives you the kind of shine that still makes you proud to take it out in the weekend sunshine. And the sheetmetal is terrific, so you can clearly see the full-length crease that gives these cars plenty of distinction. Plus, with new seals, good trim, and mirror-like chrome bumpers, this is a great vintage total package. They were even thinking about the details, that's why the upgraded SS-style Mag wheels even have exterior-matching red drums behind them.
As a true Super Sports, you get great features like bucket seats and a center console. And more than just factory upgrades, there have been some nice investments like the exterior red making its way to the dash. And the black vinyl seating has custom cloth inserts to keep it comfortable for where you sit. Plus, as you slip behind the wood and chrome sports steering wheel and spot the full auxiliary gauge trio, you know there are more upgrades waiting for you under the hood.
Nova fans know that '65 is significant. This was the first year the legendary 327 cubic-inch V8 was available in this lightweight package. So we're quite happy to see a year-correct block under the hood. And with upgrades like an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, Weiand aluminum intake, electric fuel pump, and finned Weiand valve covers, and rumbling dual exhaust, this is a powerful and fortified package.
