Allmän beskrivning :
Lotus Elan Plus 2S 13 October 1969, original English market right hand drive.
Chassis number 50/1808
Engine number F 19747
Miles traveled 87,222 certified on the date of the last English revision of 4 June 2019.
Good general conditions.
Original color is Cirrus White.
Vehicle purchased by those who have owned it since 1995.
Around the end of the 90s the car was completely dismantled (there is an extensive photo library of this process). The engine was rebuilt and all mechanical items overhauled (included unleaded petrol conversion). The chassis (which is galvanised) was stripped checked and then Painted in protective black . Lotus chassis no Spyder.
The body was taken back to gel coat, repaired and then repainted in dark
blue.
The body now shows rippling in areas which is common in these cars, on the positive side after around 20 years the only gel coat cracks ( no holes) are in a
small area on the roof near the gutter trim on the drivers side.
For an optimum finish a respray would be advised but given the lack of visible crazing save for that already mentioned this would probably not require major fibreglass preparation which is usually the costly part of a restoration.
The bumpers are original (very difficult to find the original rear bumper) with an excellent chrome finish in the front one. The rear one must be re-chromed if you want it perfect.
There is all the correct chrome trim in good condition, a professional polishing would make everything perfect.
The nose trim and grill are correct and in good condition. That this is an early +2S as demonstrated by the cutouts and riveted inserts for the spot lamps. This also serves to demonstrate that there appears to have been no front end accident damage as later repair sections had recesses incorporated for the spot lamps.
The stainless steel screen trim (originally from Ford Corsair along with the front screen) it is not mounted but it is present and come with the car. (it is inside the boot, look at photos.)
The sill inserts are intact and solid , replaced over the years.
Panel fit is excellent with even gaps and with uniform empty spaces.
The door warning and step puddle lights work.
The wheels are of the chrome rim type and in remarkably good condition and the spare is good too.
Original inboard drive shafts and doughnuts.
The interior is in good condition. All instruments are original Smiths. Original steering wheel. The sky has some spots that probably come away with a good cleaning, some minimal laceration on the driver's seat.
The red carpet is not correct, it should be black but it is in good condition.
The Girling brake servo is original and works well.
The airhorns in the nose are period but not original spec (not a huge issue).
Replaced all the electrical system.
The dynamo has been replaced by an alternator, but the ammeter in the dashboard is original.
The engine bay lights work.
This car drives how a +2 should.
It starts perfectly and idles constantly. Crisp acceleration without any flat spots , gear change as it should be, no overheating. The steering is precise and the suspension works well. Brakes positive and effective with no pull to either side. No unexpected noise from the drive train
which is exceptionally quiet. Usual slight fizz at the gear change knob.
Summary
This is not a concourse car but in my opinion an excellent driver with loads of potential to bring up to show condition with the necessary outlay if desired
Permanently exported from the United Kingdom, paperwork is underway for Italian documentation and plates.
Many English MOTs of the past all without warnings. Valid mot, deadline June 2020.
Available to answer any questions, better by email. Slightly negotiable price. Many more photos on request. I am available in exchange with MGC GT, TVR VIXEN S2 or S3, Innocenti Mini cooper 1300, Alpine Renault A 310.
Thanks.
