Bentley S1 Sport Saloon by Mulliner '58 1958

General description : Aluminum bodywork by the acclaimed Mulliner Very rare: only 27 such HJ Mulliner 4-Door Sports Saloons ever built Comes with some invoices for intensive maintenance services In impeccable condition British prestige of the highest level The Bentley S is a three-part series of high-quality typical British cars that were built from 1955 to 1965. During that production run, Bentley truly succeeded in innovating and moving away from pre-war design. In 1955, Bentley introduced the S1 to the market, which marked a shift towards a more modern design style for Bentley. They retained the classic elements but decided to reduce the pompous elements found in the pre-war models. Bentley introduced a sleek saloon equipped with a straight-six engine to a four-speed automatic transmission. Inside, they maintained the same level of luxury. For four years, until 1959, the S1 was produced and was then succeeded by the Bentley S2, which brought more power to the table. A 6.2-liter V8 engine was designed for the S2. Over the course of four years, the S2 introduced power steering, a new dashboard design, and electric windows, among other features. After meticulously producing 2,308 models, Bentley decided to create a trilogy out of the S series by designing the S3. The S3 made its debut at the 1962 Paris Auto Show. While not an entirely new Bentley, there were significant changes: the headlights were more efficient and got doubled, the interior was designed with a focus on rear-seat passenger safety, power steering worked better, and the engine and carburettors were larger in displacement. The latter change was reportedly made to reduce air pollution. Over three years, approximately 1,600 S3 models were sold until 1965, running parallel to the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. The successor, the Bentley T1, was poised to make its debut in 1965. Bentley S1 The S1 had the honor of kicking off the S-series of Bentley. All the pomp that was very popular with the discerning Bentley clientele before and shortly after the war was partly set aside, without diminishing any of the Bentley prestige, quite the contrary. As the direct successor to the Bentley R, on one hand, streamlining the car's design was in order, and on the other hand, there were mechanical improvements. For the S1, the wheelbase was slightly lengthened, the suspension softened for even more driving comfort, and both steering and braking were optimized for an even better driving experience. Inside, the classic style is maintained, the S1 is highly ergonomic, and the driving experience is a pleasure, partly thanks to the harmonious hum of the inline-six cylinder engine. Just over 3500 units of the S1 were built; today, the S1 is a coveted classic car, as its value is steadily rising. About Bentley
Before becoming a mere subsidiary to Rolls-Royce, Bentley was an independent Automaker famous for the "fastest lorries in the world" e.i Bentley 4½ Litre.

Good ol' Bentley boys (A group of wealthy British motorists, mainly Woolf Barnato, Sir Henry "Tim" Birkin, steeplechaser George Duller, aviator Glen Kidston, S.C.H. "Sammy" Davis, and Dr Dudley Benjafield ) -in their trusty Bentley cars- took four consecutive victories at 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1924, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930

In 1931 Bentley was taken over British Central Equitable Trust that later proved to be a front for Rolls-Royce Limited. Unhappy with his role at Rolls-Royce, W.O. Bentley left the company when his contract expired in 1935 duly joining Lagonda. This was beginning of which ultimately led Bentley cars to become more or less badge-engineered Rolls-Royce.
