BMW M6 3.5L Inline 6 1988

General description : 1988 BMW M6 The BMW M6 was introduced in 1983 and was the high performance version of the 6 series marketed under the M sub-brand.  These cars were still being produced until 2019 but there was a small break during the 90s/early 2000s.  5,855 were produced of the E24 between 1983 and 1989 with only 1,677 being imported to North America.  These timeless classics combined performance, luxury and a euro styling that is very desirable to this day.  This 1988 is a very clean example of one of these cars and runs great.  It currently belongs in a private collection and is always stored indoors.  It has been in Texas since 2004.  The paint has been redone in its original Zinnoberrot Red color which is in great shape with a nice finish.  Since then the front valance and drivers rear quarter were refinished in 2020 to correct a chip and small dent.  All of the original style trim and exterior accents are in place and in good condition.  The glass is all good throughout and tinted.  It has all of its stock exterior lights and all are working properly.  The BMW style 42 17 inch BBS two piece wheels on it are done in Gold which contrast the bright Red perfectly.  They are wrapped in Sumitomo tires which have plenty of tread life left. Under the hood is the cars original 24 valve 3.5 liter inline 6 cylinder motor.  It has a Bosch ML-Jetronic fuel injection system and the motor has a very stock appearance.  It was serviced in October 2019 when the valve cover was refinished, drive belts replaced and it received a new blower motor, spark plugs, distributor cap, and ignition rotor.  Since 2015 services also included new fuel injectors, new water pump, new starter, no fuel pressure regulator and more.  These cars all had a 5 speed manual transmission and this one shifts well with no issues.  It is a great driving car and has plenty of pep.  It rides down the road well and has a UUC Motorwerks big brake kit with Wilwood calipers as well as Ireland Engineering sport springs and sway bars.  New rear axle boots were installed in August 2020.  It sounds great with the Supersprint exhaust exiting through chrome tips. VIN:WBAEE1416J2561578 Production Date: 02-09-1988 Type: 635 CSI Series: E24 (6 Series) Body Type: Coupe Engine: S38 Color: Zinnoberrot In June 2019 the White Lotus and Black interior was redone.  Then in October 2020 it received some upgrades with all new speakers, custom kick panel 6.5 inch Focal speakers and package tray 6.5 inch coaxle speakers which greatly improved the sound overall.  It has a Pioneer stereo infotainment system and is a more modern unit that has bluetooth and does what most modern units do plus is wired to a back up camera.  It also has 2 JL Audio 8 subwoofers, an audio control amplifier and a JL audio digital amplifier.  While all of that was being done it was completely rewired and it was fully dynamatted while the carpet was out.  It also received a bunch of new trim pieces in place of the plastic originals.  The dash was all redone and has a new OEM Black pad.  Other nice upgrades include the 370mm M-Tech II steering wheel and UUC Motorwerks Evo3 Ultimate short shifter.  It also has what is known as the "ice box" between the rear seats.  The AC blows cold and everything like the power adjustable sport seats and electronic sunroof work properly. It has no history of accidents and comes with receipts showing over $80K of work done under previous ownership.  It also comes with an owners manual and the factory tool kit that is mounted to the underside of the deck lid. Park it in your garage for $54,900.00!

Bayerische Motoren Werke, commonly known as BMW, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1916. Initially established as an aircraft-engine manufacturer during World War I, BMW faced restrictions on aircraft production after the war. In response, the company shifted its focus to motorcycle production in 1923, marking the beginning of its involvement in the automotive industry. Subsequently, BMW entered the world of automobiles in 1928 by producing the DIXI, essentially a licensed version of the Austin 7 from the Austin Motor Company.

In the 1930s, BMW began to establish itself as a manufacturer of elegant and high-performance vehicles. One notable model from this era is the BMW 327, introduced in 1937. The 327 was available as both a coupe and a cabriolet, showcasing the brand's commitment to luxury and style. Additionally, BMW achieved success in sports car racing during this period, particularly with the BMW 328. The 328, which debuted in 1936, became renowned for its performance and aerodynamics. BMW campaigned the 328 in various racing events, including the prestigious Mille Miglia, where the company introduced several aerodynamic specials.

The post-war era proved challenging for BMW, and the company faced financial difficulties that nearly led to bankruptcy. However, BMW managed to recover and rebuild, eventually becoming one of the leading premium automotive brands globally.

As the 1960s unfolded, BMW further solidified its reputation for producing sports-oriented and luxurious vehicles. In 1968, the BMW 2002 was introduced, marking the birth of the "New Class" of compact, sporty sedans. The 2002 gained popularity for its agile handling and performance, laying the foundation for BMW's sporty image.

Moving into the 1970s, BMW expanded its lineup with the introduction of the E9 platform, which included the iconic BMW 3.0 CS coupe. The E9 series showcased BMW's commitment to blending performance and luxury. In 1972, the M1, BMW's first mid-engined sports car, made its debut. The M1 was initially developed as a racing car but later became a road-going model. The M1 laid the groundwork for BMW's high-performance M series.

In the late 1970s, the BMW E24 6 Series was introduced, offering a combination of luxury and performance. The 6 Series included models like the 630CS, 633CSi, and 635CSi, becoming a symbol of sophistication and driving pleasure.

Through these milestones and a commitment to innovation and performance, BMW has evolved into a powerhouse in the automotive industry, maintaining its status as one of the leading premium brands worldwide.
