Gateway Classic Cars of St. Louis is proud to offer a great little 1969 Chevrolet Corvair. Many see the Corvair as a small inexpensive economy car, which it was in its time, but few recognize how ahead of its time the vehicle was. The idea of a rear engine, rear drive, small car with a horizontally opposed or "flat" six was rather unheard of for the American market. When introduced in the early 1960s most cars on the road were massive 18" long boats with large V8 engines up front and very little thought put into handling. The Corvair utilized an uncommon air cooled engine and put it in the back of the car for an entirely new layout. Very few manufacturers used this layout in great volume, but Volkswagen and Porsche may be the most well known. This particular Corvair is from the second generation and features a 165 CI Flat 6 with mates up with a PowerGlide automatic transmission. The mileage is believed to be original at 80,800 and the car runs and drives great. It has been painted and features rally wheels and black rally stripes. The carbs were recently rebuilt and synchronized so this little baby is ready for duty. If you're looking for a great entry level classic car with a lot of character, this is it.
