Chevrolet El Camino 396ci V8 1969

General description : 1969 Chevrolet El Camino SS The idea of a 2 door vehicle on a passenger chassis with rear storage tray may have popped up in the 20's but it wasn't until 1934 that the first coupe utility was released by Ford Australia.  This was the result from a 1932 letter in which a wife requested a vehicle that they could respectably drive to church on Sundays and then be able to still take their hogs to the market on Mondays.  These vehicles, nicknamed "Utes", have a long history in Australia and it wouldn't be until 1957 with the introduction of the 1957 Ranchero that the first car/truck combo would hit the US market.  As with most new vehicle designs the other manufactures would quickly jump in to compete and Chevrolet's entry in the coupe utility field would be the legendary El Camino in 1959.  The initial run was only for two years but they later returned in 1964 and production continued until 1987.   The El Camino might be the best of both words.  The look of one of the most famous muscle cars, the Chevelle, and the usefulness of a truck bed.  This 1969 El Camino SS belongs to the 3rd generation which was a unique year range because the look of the early vs later 3rd gen car is very different.  At this time the new Super Sport (SS396) variant was introduced and this one is a true numbers matching SS.  It is a 3 owner car with the first 2 being in California before it traveled to Iowa where it currently resides.  The body is all solid and painted in a very clean Orange with Black racing stripes which have a really nice shine.  All of the glass is in good condition and has been tinted.  It wears all the correct stainless trim, chrome and emblems.  Interestingly the "el Camino" emblem with the lowercase "e" is a 2 year only design.  This year had the double headlights which work properly and are halogens.  The car rides on the correct 15 inch 5 spoke super sport wheels with black paint and is wrapped in General Altimax RT tires.  Open up the SS hood to reveal the numbers matching 396 V8 motor.  The engine compartment has a factory stock look to it with a majority of the motor being painted in Chevrolet Orange as it would have been originally.  It is then fitted with nice chrome valve covers and a round 396 Turbo Jet 375HP air cleaner.  The car came as a factory air car but the original compressor is no longer in place.  It does however have factory power steering and power brakes.  Fitted to the motor is a TH400 automatic transmission that shifts smoothly and sends power back to the 12 bolt rear end.  Everything works on the car and it has all new shocks.  The interior is all new and done in mostly Black with very nice custom Orange inserts on the seat.  It has a folding center arm rest and seat belts with chrome latches.  The Black door panels are stock SS panels and are in perfect condition.  The dash has been kept stock as well with all of the factory knobs, switches, and gauges.  The odometer currently reflects 93,238 original miles.  The dash pad is in good shape and it also has the correct SS 396 trim above the glove box.  Overall this is a very nice classic and it is being offered up for sale at a very reasonable price.  The El Caminos have a large following and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. Put this SS in your garage for $35,500.00! This car is located in Alton, Iowa.

About Chevrolet
Chevrolet aka Chevy, founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant is the best selling and biggest brand by General Motors -mainly due to low pricing.

No wonder Chevy the "working man's car" has become such an iconic part of Americana in films and pop-culture.

When talking about Chevy one must not ignore Chevrolet small-block V8 the world's most produced engine that has been in production since 1955 and still going strong.

Surprisingly, "America's only sports car" Corvette was introduced under Chevrolet brand rather than its own. To us the most memorable Corvette has to be The second generation (C2) Corvette, Sting Ray.

To compete with VW Beatle Chevrolet introduced Corvair a compact automobile built in 1960–1969 It was the only American designed, mass-produced passenger car to feature a rear-mounted air-cooled engine. Corvair handling was deemed notoriously bad mainly due to Ralph Nader's Unsafe at Any Speed. Although, any handling issues were soon solved the reputation did stick.

With Pony / Muscle car mania taking over the Americans, following the introduction of Ford Mustang, Chevrolet came up with one of its most famous models Camaro. During the first year alone they managed to sell 220,906 Camaros.
