Chrysler Imperial 413 V8 1963

General description : 1963 Imperial Crown Since 1926 Chrysler has been giving the Imperial name to its top of the line vehicles but in 1955 they spun it off as its entirely own make.  This would become their luxury automobile and continued being made through 1975.  The goal was to compete with GMs Cadillac and Fords Lincoln but due to Chrysler continuing to sell it at their own dealership the Imperial never got its footing as its own make.  In fact, you will see many of these cars referred to and listed as "Chrysler Imperials" even though they were at the time considered "Imperials."  These cars had a really unique look and were fully loaded at the time with all of the best features available.  They even still had tail fins and separated dual headlights which are cool features on the car that really show the transition from the 50s into the 60s.  The 63 you see listed here is very unique and one of those true survivor cars.  It is all original throughout and even the paint is original except for 1 door.  It is done in the factory Gold color which is topped with just a ton of trim and chrome.  In 63 the rear lights were incorporated into the fins which creates a pretty cool look from the rear along with the spare cover incorporated into the deck lid.  The tires on the car are in good shape and are wrapped around the original wheels/hubcaps.  Under the hood is the original 413 V8 motor that runs well.  You won't see a lot of flashy bolt on chrome on this motor because that's not what you want with this type of car.  This is the type of car that has been preserved all of this time and should continue life as a true piece of history.  Backing up the engine is a push button Torqueflite automatic transmission that shifts like it should.  The car does have a few known problems which we have listed below.  It is all very minor and none keep you from driving the car.  They could be addressed over time and aren't anything you wouldn't expect from an non restored car of this age.  Problems: The right ball joint was over greased in the past at some point and blew out a seal which created a popping noise.  The car doesn't have any major leaks but if sat without getting driven for an extended period of time it will leak some.  The AC is working properly but could use a charge to blow much colder.  A new sending unit has been installed but the gas gauge has a grounding problem causing it to malfunction.  The muffler has a hole in it but the car does come with a lifetime warranty from Midas.  The exhaust manifold heat riser needs repair.  Other than that everything is working properly on the car and in good shape.  The interior is one of the highlights of the car because it is in gorgeous condition.  It was driven for many years with plastic over the seats and it was just recently removed.  It is done in a brown and beige combination which is all original.  The dash on the car looks like it came right out of the Jetsons with lots of trim, the push buttons transmission controls and a very unique rounded rectangle steering wheel that almost protrudes from the dash like a shelf.  You really don't see a lot of these cars and being so original allows many the opportunity to see some of these unique features for the first time!  SOLD   Additional pictures

About Chrysler
The Chrysler Corporation, one of the "big three" was founded by Walter Chrysler in 1925

Apart from artdeco(isque), airflow and airstream models, Chrysler's early years may lack lustre in design terms but not in technical. Their list of early automotive "firsts" includes Floating Power i.e. Rubber engine mounts, replaceable oil filters, downdraft carburetor, and four-wheel hydraulic brakes.

Things were to change after the war, Exner revived Chrysler production car design with the sleek, sculptured Forward Look designs of 1955 that transformed the product line overnight. The flagship in 1955, Chrysler 300, came with HEMI power. The 300, arguably the first muscle car, became a legend on and off the race track and set records throughout the 1950s, The Legend of Hemi was born.
