Chrysler New Yorker 324 inline 8 cylinder 1950

General description : 1950 Chrysler New Yorker For several years the New Yorker served as Chryslers flagship model and it has certainly stamped its place in history as one of the longest running nameplates ever created spanning from 1940 all the way until 1996.  The New Yorker was a top of the line vehicle that was always paired with the latest and greatest features available.  This 1950 New Yorker is the 4 door sedan model and has a ton of potential.  It can be driven as is but if restoration is your goal this is a great starting point.  The body is in good condition and all of the original panels are straight.  It is coated in Grey paint and all of the original chrome and stainless is there.  It has a 2 piece front windshield and none of the glass is damaged.  It rides on the original wheels and hupbcaps with white wall tires.  The car is powered by the original 324 inline 8 cylinder motor that does start up and run.  Possibly one of the coolest features in this car is what Chrysler called the fluid drive transmission.  This was a very innovative feature during that time which could not be found in the cars created by there competition.  It incorporated four forward gears set up in two ranges.  There is a clutch but it is only engaged when shifting into reverse or driving mode.  From there the transmission would automatically move through the gears on its own using the gas pedal.  When you roll up to the stop, the car remains in gears and downshifts automatically.  When you needed to pass a vehicle a button under the pedal would be activated and downshift the car into a lower gears.   This gave you quick acceleration but was much smoother than the standard clutch/manual set up.  Chrysler advertised that about 98 percent of driving could be done in the driving range allowing you not to have to shift as often.  The transmission set up is still working well and functions properly.    The interior of the car features a Gray and Burgundy color combination and incorporates bench seats in the front and rear.  The dash features all of the original components including the trim, emblems, radio, clock and gauges.  Even the original steering wheel is in place.  This survivor classic has a ton of potential and considering its originality and age is in remarkably good condition.   Make this unique Chrysler yours for $8,000.00!

About Chrysler
The Chrysler Corporation, one of the "big three" was founded by Walter Chrysler in 1925

Apart from artdeco(isque), airflow and airstream models, Chrysler's early years may lack lustre in design terms but not in technical. Their list of early automotive "firsts" includes Floating Power i.e. Rubber engine mounts, replaceable oil filters, downdraft carburetor, and four-wheel hydraulic brakes.

Things were to change after the war, Exner revived Chrysler production car design with the sleek, sculptured Forward Look designs of 1955 that transformed the product line overnight. The flagship in 1955, Chrysler 300, came with HEMI power. The 300, arguably the first muscle car, became a legend on and off the race track and set records throughout the 1950s, The Legend of Hemi was born.
