Marti Report shows 1 of 39 The DeTomaso Pantera is a mid-engine automobile that was produced by the DeTomaso car company in Italy from 1971-1991. During this two-decade run there were 7,000 units built. The Pantera was designed by the firm, Ghia, and replaced the Mangusta model. Ghia stylist Tom Tjaarda styled the new supercar, and Giam Paolo Dallara was engaged for chassis and production design. The Pantera is a true Supercar and is considered one of the finest ever produced. The 1974 model saw several improvements none was more essential than the addition of the Ford 351 Cleveland V-8 engine with four-bolt mains, a higher-performance cam delivering 325 horsepower. Zero to 60 was rated at 6.5 sec! Gearbox is a German manufactured ZF model 5DS-25 five speed manual. For stopping power, the Pantera braking system includes four-wheel Vented Discs at the front and rear. RWD (rear-wheel drive), Overall length was 168.1 inches, width 74.8 inches and a wheelbase of 99.0 inches. Curb weight 3,020 lbs. About De tomaso
De Tomaso Automobili SpA was founded by the Argentine-born Alejandro de Tomaso in Modena Italy 1959. Originally, they produced various prototypes and racing cars, including a Formula One car for Frank Williams' team in 1970.

De Tomaso produced three classic sports cars

Vallelunga a mid-engined sports car with an aluminium backbone chassis and 104 bhp (78 kW) Ford Kent engine, reaching a top speed of 215 km/h. Only 53 were made in total.

Mangusta, introduced in 1966 was the first De Tomaso produced in significant numbers. The car had an American Ford 4.7-litre iron-block V8 engine and steel and aluminium coupé bodywork from Ghia. Roughly 400 Mangustas were built before production ended in 1971.

De Tomaso's most famous (and numerous) model Pantera appeared in 1971 with a 351 Cleveland Ford V8 and a low, wedge-shaped body designed by Ghia's Tom Tjaarda. In total 6,128 Panteras were produced.
