Jaguar Mk2 1967

General description : Offered up for sale we have this meticulously restored Jaguar 340 (MK2). The Jaguar MK2 is one of the most iconic saloon cars with its classic looks and plentiful performance it was favoured by the criminals and police of the 1960’s as a very capable car. In 1967 Jaguar rebadged the 2.4 and 3.4 litre MK2’s as the 240 and 340. These cars marked the final run of this well-loved Saloon and production only ran for less than a year before the introduction of the XJ6 in 1968. This meant that only 2,788 Jaguar 340’s were made (compare to nearly 85,000 regular mk2’s) and with a 3.4 litre straight six XK engine and a spacious cabin with room to seat five the 340 was a hugely desirable car. The 340 also received slimmer bumpers, over riders and the rear end was subtly re-shaped. The last hurrah for one of Great Britain’s most iconic classic cars of all time. This particular car was first owned by a welsh farmer, and originally ordered as old English white with red interior. It was then sold onto another local Welshman still very early on in its life. It was after this that it moved onto ownership with a British aerospace engineer in Cheshire who owned the vehicle for some considerable 24 years. In this time, he carried out various maintenance works before carrying out a restoration in 1996, and after this time kept the car in permanent professional heated storage and only drove the car during three weeks every year as he was stationed in Saudi Arabia. After this the car was then sold onto its last former owner – a true car enthusiast and petrol head who was looking for the perfect base for a full no expense spared concours restoration. It was with this owner that tens of thousands were spent to create the best possible 340. To make the car financially accessible and compete with rivals such as the Rover P6, Jaguar finished the interiors of these last year run models in an Ambia leather like material with tufted carpets to make a cost saving in the production of the car. However, this is not an issue with our particular car as a full bespoke re-trim has been undertaken to the highest standards by Upton’s of Hastings who are more commonly known for trimming the Eagle Speedsters. This special interior cost just under £10,000 all in. In addition, Jaguar XJ40 seats have been installed for greater comfort, look and further safety. This is just a small amount of the work that’s been carried out to this Jaguar 340, and upwards of £80,000 has just been spent ensuring this car looks and drives its best. The specification when this project started was to make the vehicle ‘Better than new’ and this is evident now the car is finished. Throughout the project no corners were cut, the car was first stripped and then dipped to reveal bodyshell defects. The shell was very solid but any necessary small repairs were made and fresh metal was fabricated and welded in place if needed. This work and the main restoration were all carried out by the trusted XJ restorations who are known for their very high work standard and attention to detail. After the repairs were made the shell was finished factory spec correctly (this being lead loading at the panel joints in the traditional way) and E-coated to protect the metal long term in a nod to the more modern way of doing things. Once the shell was fully and comprehensively protected the car then made its way to another trusted UK Jaguar specialist, CKL who are well known for being one of finest classic Jaguar restorers in the country maintaining Jaguar C & D types. This is where the car was painted into the contemporary, unusual but stunning Sherwood Green. Needless to say, absolutely no expense was spared and a top-quality paint finish was achieved to adorn the superb shell with almost the best colour coat finish actually possible. The 340 also received a full engine rebuild which included new valves, sleeves and bearings. The engine was then optically restored before being mated with the gearbox which was also fully overhauled aesthetically and mechanically. The cooling system wasn’t overlooked with a Kenlowe fan fitted and Evans waterless coolant added to ensure the car stays cool and is useable on today’s modern roads. A 150-mile road test was carried out (a genuine pleasure) and the car will sit a high motorway speeds all day long.Further to the powertrain works, the suspension was of course fully over hauled and the braking system was uprated to a Cooper craft system which makes the car stop very well, inspiring great confidence. The car was reassembled with the addition of all new front chrome and fixings and has also had the front 340 fog aperture blanking mesh removed and 1966 Jaguar MK2 fog lights installed.
Needless to say, the car is now presented in immaculate condition. With only three previous owners and a healthy history file documenting any work carried out, past MOT’s and service work all the way back to the eighties, she is a very well documented vehicle, and well known to the Jaguar Enthusiasts club. A recent valuation was carried out by the aforementioned Jaguar enthusiast club which valued the vehicle at £60,000. Invoices displaying all the parts ordered and images from the vehicles full restoration are also present within the file as well as the original service handbook and restoration portfolio.Representing phenomenal value for money, this is an immaculate but incredibly useable classic that’s as capable of being used almost every day as it is winning trophy’s at shows on the weekend.A relaxed cruiser with a genuine turn of pace if needs be, room for the whole family and a good-sized boot, it may be the ultimate road trip car to drive to that French chateau for a family weekend, or just pop to the pub on a summers evening after an enjoyable b road cruise. The ultimate usable classic? We can offer a manual gearbox conversion for this car if your desired preference, please call us to discuss further details. Viewings are by appointment only.

About Jaguar Mk2
The Jaguar Mk2 3.8 manual overdrive is a classic sports sedan produced by the British automaker Jaguar Cars from 1959 to 1967. The Mk2 was the successor to the earlier Mk1, and the manual overdrive version was an option for those who preferred a more engaging driving experience.

The Mk2 manual overdrive was powered by a range of engines, including a 2.4-liter, 3.4-liter, and 3.8-liter inline-six engines. These engines produced up to 220 horsepower and were paired with a four-speed manual gearbox that featured an overdrive gear, which allowed for more relaxed cruising at high speeds.

The Mk2 manual overdrive had advanced suspension and braking systems, with independent suspension and disc brakes on all four wheels. It also had a luxurious interior with leather seats, wood trim, and a range of options such as air conditioning and power windows.

The Mk2 manual overdrive was known for its exceptional handling and performance, with a top speed of up to 125 mph and acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 8.5 seconds. Its design was also innovative for its time, featuring a unitary construction and a four-wheel independent suspension.

The Jaguar Mk2 manual overdrive has become an iconic classic car, with many enthusiasts still restoring and driving them today. Its design and performance continue to inspire car designers and collectors alike.
