The Mercury Comet and its corporate brother the Ford Maverick have been steadily climbing the collector car scale for several years and it's not surprising. They are a nice size, not too big and not too small. They offer comfortable interior space for family and friends, with a nice sized trunk for luggage if you decide to take a trip. The main attraction is the look, all you need to do is put on a set of custom wheels and this car will transform into an aggressive looking street machine.
Here is a nice one that fits that description perfectly and as an added bonus, it has the rare 302ci motor that is original to this car. This Comet presents very well with nice paint in the original color of competition blue. The blue interior is in good shape and provides an excellent contrast with the exterior. Rally gauges and a custom steering wheel add to the performance image.
Open the hood and you will find a large assortment of chrome eye-candy that everyone will appreciate. The custom dual exhaust tweaks a few more horses from the motor and sounds great as well. The underside is very solid and there are no issues. This car was part of a large private collection and was stored in a climate controlled facility.
This is a fifth generation Comet that many consider the most attractive, we have to agree. Our road test verified it to be a good running and driving car that gave us no unpleasant surprises. The Comet is the rare car that combines looks, collector value and a realistic price in one package.
