Morris Minor Traveller 2002 Mazda Miata 1.8 twin cam 1961

General description : 1961 Morris Minor Traveler - Woody Restomod This unique 1961 Morris Minor Traveler is totally restored and upgraded, including hand built chassis in order to successfully utilize the complete running gear of a 2002 Mazda Miata 1.8 twin cam. This is no normal engine and transmission upgrade since the bespoke build now allows the Morris to use all parts of the Miata running gear including sub-frames, suspension, steering and braking systems as well as engine and transmission, which is automatic. This therefore truly combines the classic shape, look, and feel of a Morris Woody with modern day performance & handling, and braking. The car is the length of a standard Traveler, but has subtly flared arches both front and rear to accommodate the track of the Miata. It has Minilite wheels, and a leather interior with bucket seats. Classic air conditioning has also been added together with a period look but new radio and electric aerial. Before installation, the Miata engine was serviced and had timing belts replaced. The rebuild was undertaken in Houston, Texas, over about a three year period as a retirement project by a truly dedicated enthusiast. Initially from the UK, his original plan was to repatriate the car for use there – hence it remains right hand drive, but being small relative to many cars on US roads, this is not an impediment once you get used to the feel of the car – and with all round glazing, visibility is excellent. He advised the consignor ( who bought it from him directly in 2015 ) that not counting his own labor, he had over $36,000 invested in the car, which he has done less than 1000 miles since the rebuild. Some details of the rebuild may still be available on the Morris Minor Forum where he posted regularly as ‘Texas Mongrel’ as the build progressed. An extensive file of receipts will come with the vehicle as well as a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate with details of the car as originally built in 1961. An original sticker from 1965 remains affixed to one of the rear windows indicating it was at the Silverstone Grand Prix that year so despite being to all intents ‘new’, it has retained period touches and feel. This is a unique car for the right enthusiast. A rebuild like this would cost multiples of the asking price. The consignor is a Morris minor enthusiast and the only reason it is for sale is he is downsizing his collection and has reluctantly chosen this car for sale. You will never see a car like this anywhere else on the road! Add this unique classic to your collection for only $28,000.00! This car is being represented for a collector in the Seattle, Washington area.

About Morris
The history of Morris Motors spans several decades and includes the production of various iconic models that left a significant mark on the automotive industry in Britain. From its inception to its eventual integration into the British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC), Morris played a crucial role in shaping the everyday motoring experiences of countless Britons.

Founding Years (1912-1920s): William Morris established Morris Motors Limited in 1912. The company initially produced affordable vehicles, including the Morris Oxford and Morris Cowley, which were known for their reliability and became popular choices among the working class.
Interwar Period (1930s): The 1930s saw Morris introducing significant models like the Morris Eight, a small car that became widely popular due to its affordability, reliability, and ease of use. The Morris Ten also gained attention during this era.
Post-World War II (1940s-1950s): After World War II, Morris introduced models like the Morris Minor in 1948. The Minor was a revolutionary small car with modern features, spacious interiors, and became a British motoring icon.
Expansion and Merger (1960s): During the 1960s, Morris was part of a series of mergers that formed the British Motor Corporation (BMC). Models like the Morris Mini, launched in 1959, became an international sensation and an emblem of British design and engineering.
British Leyland Era (1970s): In 1968, BMC merged with Leyland Motors to form British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC). Morris continued to produce several models during this period, but the brand began to lose its individual identity within the larger conglomerate.
Important Morris Models:

Morris Oxford (1913)
Morris Cowley (1915)
Morris Eight (1935)
Morris Ten (1933)
Morris Minor (1948)
Morris Mini (1959)
Morris Marina (1971)
Morris Ital (1980)
Throughout its history, Morris produced cars that catered to the needs of the average Briton. Their vehicles were known for being reliable, practical, and often affordable, making them a common sight on British roads for many years.

However, by the late 1970s and early 1980s, British Leyland faced financial difficulties and issues with quality control, leading to a decline in the reputation of Morris and other brands under its umbrella. The Morris brand eventually phased out with the reorganization of British Leyland, as the company shifted focus and streamlined its product lines.

Despite its eventual decline, Morris played a vital role in shaping the motoring landscape in Britain and left a legacy with several models that became ingrained in the memories of generations of British motorists.
