Ford Business Coupe 400 cubic inch V8 1941

Allgemeine Beschreibung : Very clean professional build. 400 cubic inch Chevy V8, TH400 automatic, 4-wheel disc brakes. Custom interior with ice cold A/C. Extensive recent service. Very well documented. A fully sorted and well-engineered rod, ready for the road!

This 1941 Ford coupe has lived three lives: one as a stock 1941 Ford, one as a ‘60s custom, and a more recent freshening into the awesome coupe you see today. We have photos of it dating back decades and you can see the evolution of the car’s awesome look, which today wears a coat of Prowler Orange and pearl white for a look that’s quite contemporary. The top was expertly chopped four inches and the usual custom tricks were applied everywhere else: it’s shaved, nosed, decked, smoothed, and Frenched. There’s a custom billet grille up front that echoes the original 1941 Ford piece so the car is instantly recognizable at a glance. There are cool portholes in the hood, a trick we haven’t seen before, and custom stainless trim runs the length of the bodywork to make it look long and lean. Finish quality is excellent throughout with only the most minor signs of use since the work was finished. Panel fit is very good and you’ll note there’s no fiberglass on this car, it’s 100% steel. The rocker panels are custom pieces, molded around the lake pipes (non-functional) which really gives this custom a next-level look. Add in the tinted glass, Vee’d windshield, and subtle pinstriping and you get a custom Ford that stands out in a crowd.

The custom interior was created by the experts at Portage Trim at significant expense—look at the workmanship! It’s anchored by custom Glide seats that emulate buckets up front and a functional bench in back. Charcoal leather is accentuated by multi-colored piping that’s subtle but adds a great splash of color in the otherwise monochromatic interior. A custom Wabbit woodgrained instrument panel was created just for this car and is filled with Ford Motorsports gauges for all the major engine functions, and the finished look is elegant and functional. There are miniature LEDs for the shift indicator, a tilt steering column with a Grant banjo-style steering wheel, and proper vents for the Vintage Air A/C system. Sony provided the stereo system that sounds great in the fully insulated cabin, and take noe of the thoughtful details like custom aluminum pulls for the hood and trunk, a billet E-brake pedal, and the 8-ball shifter knob where the 8 is the lock button. Nice! And please check out the full sculpted headliner that’s a work of art by itself. The large trunk is fully upholstered to match and includes a Sony CD changer and a removable bulkhead for access to the various electronics and battery.

Power comes from a 400 cubic inch Chevy small block which is plenty muscular for this sporting coupe. It was rebuilt with a Competition Cams #981 camshaft, Trick Flow aluminum heads, and a big 4-barrel carburetor on top to feed it. Other details include an HEI distributor, a big radiator up front, and block-hugging headers to make it fit properly. Also note the clean wiring and plumbing that keeps most of the working stuff neatly out of sight and the two-tone paint scheme continues into the door jambs and engine bay, a nice detail. The strong-running small block is linked to a bulletproof TH400 3-speed automatic transmission with a 2700 RPM stall converter, and a GM 10-bolt from a 1970 Camaro that has 3.08 gears and Posi limited slip inside. The front suspension is a custom Heidt’s crossmember with A-arms and coil-overs, plus power rack-and-pinion steering. There’s a disc brake at all four corners for impressive stopping power. The exhaust uses mellow-sounding mufflers, so this is a comfortable highway cruiser that won’t make your ears ring, and the floors, rockers, and other structural bits are completely solid. It has been driven over the years, so it’s not sparkling clean, but the engineering is first rate and there are no signs of impending problems. This sucker is ready to rock. It has a great stance, largely thanks to those custom-finished Boyd Coddington wheels, which carry staggered 205/60/15 front and 225/70/15 rear performance radials.

Documentation is extensive, including a large file of receipts, specifications, parts lists, and much more so this rod will be easy to maintain in the future. It also includes a lot of historical information, including photos of the car as it was first conceived as well as refurbishment photos showing a bare-metal rebuild.

There are a lot of street rods out there, but many of them are kind of haphazardly built by guys who only sort-of know what they’re doing. This awesome Ford, however, is expertly engineered and finished to be fully functional and actually works like a real car. It starts easily, runs great, and rides smoothly. No surprises here, just a fun-to-drive Ford that works like it should. Call today!
