Range Rover Other Vogue SE 1989

Allgemeine Beschreibung : A handsome, low mileage Vogue SE with just two owners from new.

MODEL HISTORY

The Range Rover Classic is a luxury 4x4 built by British car maker Land Rover from 1970 to 1996. It was the first generation of vehicles produced under the Range Rover name. For most of its history, it was known simply as the "Range Rover"; Land Rover coined the term "Range Rover Classic" for the brief period the model was built alongside its P38A successor and applied the name retrospectively to all first-generation Range Rovers.

It was in the 60s that Land Rover became aware of the growing SUV market in America and had long been convinced that there was demand for an off road vehicle that also offered the comfort of a Rover saloon car. In 1967 Rover with Charles Spencer King in charge launched the ‘100-inch station wagon project' and it wasn't until 1970 the car marketed as 'A Car For All Reasons' appeared.

In its original guise, the Range Rover was more capable off-road than the Land Rover but was much more comfortable, offering a top speed in excess of 100 mph, a towing capacity of 3.5 tons, spacious accommodation for five people and groundbreaking features such as a four-speed, dual-range, permanent four-wheel-drive gearbox and hydraulic disc brakes on all wheels.

Like other Land Rover vehicles, most of the Range Rover's bodywork skin is constructed from lightweight aluminium and hung on a steel frame. The body design changed very little in the first decade and it wasn't until 1981 that the four door body was introduced. The first major push upmarket was in 1984 which saw the availability of leather trim and automatic transmission, this was followed in the 1985 model year which saw the instrument pod replaced by a more modern one and new door cards with walnut inlays.

The front end of the Range Rover was revamped in 1986. This brought a more pedestrian-friendly plastic grille with horizontal slats, and optional front valance with two fog lights. Mirrors were now mounted on the door pillar rather than the doors, the seat base was lowered and door handles were redesigned, making it more difficult for rear passengers but greatly improving the comfort for taller people in the front. Other changes include the windows, tailgate and bonnet but none of those affected the general design. Bonnet and door hinges gradually evolved out of sight and the fuel filler cap was hidden behind a hinged flap.

Equipment

PAS, Electric Seats, Windows, Mirrors and Sunroof, Air conditioning, Heated seats, Side running boards, Analogue clock, High and low 4x4 differential, Rear mud flaps, Rear light guards, Spare wheel, Tool kit.

EXTERIOR

Finished in Caspian Blue, a stunning colour for a classic Range Rover, the bodywork on this Vogue SE is in truly splendid condition that defies its age, finished with contrasting pin striped coach lines. Unlike many classic Range Rovers haunted by serious corrosion, this UK supplied example has remained well looked after and has avoided falling into disrepair.

The paintwork on this car is excellent and all the aluminium panels remain straight with only a few unobtrusive car park dents to note. A small area of light bubbling under the paint on the roof guttering and a few chips to the rear end are the most visible signs that give away this Vogue SE's age.

INTERIOR

Opening the door to this Range Rover reveals the lavish Winchester Grey leather upholstery and Burr Walnut trim. This hard dash model retains its classic appeal that can get lost in the very last soft dash examples. The interior still remains fresh with a whole host of luxury gadgets normally found on today's modern cars.

Unfortunately the radio/cassette player is not present but the headlining, prone to sagging, is still in perfect condition. Furthermore, the carpets are protected by a brand new set of mats. All the seats remain soft and supple with no signs of any rips or tears. What's more, the front seat backs and door cards are entirely scuff-free.

Lowering the tailgate reveals a near immaculate luggage area with all the carpet in ‘as new' condition. Tucked away neatly behind the carpeted side curtain, the tool kit can still be found.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The V8 engine fires into life with a purposeful roar and an equally loud fan to keep temperatures under control. The 4.5 litre Rover engine was a popular conversion for Range Rovers of the 1980s as an increasing number were purchased more as roomy saloon cars than for their abilities over rough terrain. Many drivers, therefore, were looking for extra performance on roads than was provided by the standard engines.

The diff and 4x4 system all work as they should although given the condition of the vehicle have probably seen very little use. The four-speed automatic gearbox operates well and handles the engine's power admirably through the gears.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

As standard on the Vogue SE, the alloy wheels on the vehicle are colour-keyed to match the exterior paintwork. Apart from a few minor chips on the outer beadings they all present very well.

All four tyres have ample tread remaining. The brake pads and discs are in fine order too, with plenty of life left.

HISTORY FILE

This Range Rover has covered just 41,697 miles since it was first registered to a Mr Jones on 29th August 1989. The car has had just one further keeper who acquired the vehicle four years ago. Since then it has travelled less than 1,300 miles.

This example retains its original hardback document wallet, complete with the Range Rover hand book and original ‘Land Rover Assured Warranty Validation Certificate', as provided from new. Present also are the operating instructions for the alarm system as well as the radio/cassette player.

The original service book features 14 stamps and is complemented a selection of the most recent MOT certificates.
