Honda Civic 1.5i 1985

Allmän beskrivning : Model History

The Honda CRX, originally launched as the Honda Ballade Sports CRX in Japan, was a front-wheel-drive compact car manufactured by Honda between 1983 and 1991. Although there are many supposed definitions for the acronym CRX, the most widely accepted is “Civic Renaissance Experimental”.

The first CRX (type AF) was an inexpensive sports coupe based on the Civic that was first presented at the IAA in Frankfurt in September 1983. Its low curb weight of approximately 835kg was achieved by, among other things, the fact that the outer skin consisted of 38% plastic, more specifically HPA (Honda Polymer Alloy) and Polypropylene. Additionally, the engine was made of light alloy.

The European CRX was equipped with a four cylinder fuel-injected engine with 12 valves and an overhead camshaft. The computer-controlled Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) with its self-diagnosis system was sequentially controlled by the opening time of the intake valves and by eight sensors. It was an intermittent injection system with an intake manifold pressure sensor that was originally developed for Formula 1.

The car had comparatively large doors and a rigid torsion crank axle with drum brakes at the rear. At the front the vehicle had independent suspension on shock absorber struts with wishbones, torsion bars, and ventilated disc brakes. The associated torsion bar springs could easily be adjusted in a workshop to lower the front of the vehicle by up to six centimeters. The rack and pinion steering was smooth and very direct.

Exterior

This super low mileage first gen CRX presents beautifully in glossy Polar White. The paintwork is near immaculate throughout and has recently been treated by the current owner to a full ceramic coating. Looking closer, the contrasting lower panels and bumpers are amazingly well preserved with no unsightly sun damage or fading to report. Similarly, all trims and seals retain an excellent factory finish having never been allowed to dry out or perish – even the rear spoiler still presents like new. The badges are also in super condition, as are the lights, which are free from any cracks or signs of moisture ingress. All in all, a surely unrepeatable example having clearly been cherished since new.

Interior

With its unworn velour bucket seats, original tape deck and overall pristine appearance, the interior space is a real treat for the enthusiast. The condition is truly age-defying throughout, with commonly worn items such as the steering wheel and gearknob showing almost no signs of any wear. The herringbone upholstery has never faded or discoloured, with the amazing condition of the bolsters hinting at only the lightest of use. Everything works exactly as it should, including the electric sunroof, and in the footwells the carpets are well protected by a set of tailored overmats. The generous boot area is also remarkably clean, still housing the spare wheel, jack and tool roll beneath the floor.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The CRX’s 1.5-litre engine is a revvy little number. With three valves per cylinder and Honda’s PGM-FI (Programmed Fuel Injection) it punches out a respectable 99hp, enough to shift the car from 0-60mph in under 9 seconds. The engine bay of this particular example is extremely clean and tidy, with no signs of any damage or previous poor repair to speak of – even some of the protective factory wax can still be seen. The last service was carried out at 30,900 miles and included a timing belt change.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The CRX sits on its original 13-inch alloys, all in perfect unmarked condition. The wheels are shod in a matching set of Uniroyal tyres, all with between 5-6mm of tread remaining. The brakes have also been checked and remain in fine operational condition, bringing the car to a halt quickly and in a straight line.

History File

This exemplary CRX was supplied new in November 1985 by Lester Honda of Chadwell Heath whose original rear window sticker and number plate can still be found. The car has now driven just 34k miles in the hands of five owners. The History File is complete with the original Honda document wallet, owner’s manual, service booklet, spare key, original sales brochure, and a raft of previous MOT certificates verifying the car’s super low mileage. The last service was carried less than 4k miles ago and included a timing belt change. A fresh service will be carried out prior to sale for the new keeper’s peace of mind.

Idag ger vi oss ut på en resa genom bilhistoriens annaler, särskilt berättelsen om Hondabilar fram till slutet av 1980-talet. Det är en berättelse om ett företag med ett orubbligt engagemang för teknisk excellens och ett anspråkslöst engagemang för att göra bilismen bättre.

Vår resa börjar med Honda N360, en petite kei-bil som fångade essensen av efterkrigstidens Japan. Den var liten, enkel och perfekt för att navigera på trånga stadsgator. Hondas första intåg i bilvärlden var anspråkslös, men det visade deras engagemang för praktiska och effektiva transporter.

Därefter möter vi Honda Civic, en bil som inte behöver presenteras. Den kom till scenen i början av 70-talet och satte tonen för de kommande decennierna. Civic var kompakt, pålitlig och effektiv, en bil som tyst vann förares hjärtan runt om i världen.

Vi går vidare till Honda Accord, en modell som omfamnade fördelarna med praktisk och tillförlitlighet. Det var en familjebil som man kunde lita på. Det gjorde inget väsen; det fick helt enkelt jobbet gjort.

Låt oss nu prata om Honda CVCC, en bil som tog upp 1970-talets miljöhänsyn. Den introducerade CVCC-motorn, en banbrytande teknik som minskade utsläppen och banade väg för renare, mer bränslesnåla motorer.

80-talet inledde Honda Prelude, en sportig coupé som förkroppsligade tidsandan. Det var en bil som vågade vara lite annorlunda, lite stiligare. Prelude var en inblick i Hondas förmåga att blanda praktiska egenskaper med en touch av sportighet.


Och naturligtvis finns det Honda CRX, en kompakt och smidig halvkombi som entusiaster älskade. Det var en bil som satte det "roliga" i "funktionellt". Med sin lätta design och peppiga motorer var det tjusigt att köra.


Till sist kommer vi fram till Honda NSX, en superbil som förändrade spelet. Det var Hondas sätt att säga, "Vi kan göra extraordinära också." NSX var ett tekniskt underverk, ett mittmotormästerverk som utmanade sådana som Ferrari.


Så där har du det, historien om Honda fram till slutet av 1980-talet. Det är en berättelse om bilar som inte skrek eller skröt utan som i tysthet skötte sin verksamhet och tillhandahåller effektiva, pålitliga och välkonstruerade lösningar för vardagen.



Och när vi betraktar dessa ödmjuka men innovativa fordon, påminns vi om att det ibland är de diskreta, välgjorda sakerna som lämnar de mest bestående intrycken. Helt fantastiskt, verkligen.
