The V8 Volante is a unique combination of sports car performance and handling, limousine luxury and the sort of open air motoring which has excited and thrilled customers for decades.

When Aston Martin unveiled the Vantage Volante, the skirts and body enhancements were not quite to everybody’s liking. One particular customer, HRH, The Prince of Wales, who has owned a DB6 Volante since 1969, obviously wasn’t keen on the new additions. When the late Emir of Bahrain offered to purchase the Prince, as a gift, a brand new V8 Volante, Prince Charles requested Vantage performance, with a more restrained look. Whilst the wheel arches were slightly flared and the larger 16 inch Ronal wheels and tyres of the V8 Vantage saloon were fitted, the resulting car looked almost indistinguishable from a first series V8 Volante.

Once Prince Charles had taken delivery of his rather special car, other customers began to ask for something similar. Thus AML began offering to those special people the new derivative which has become known as the V8 Vantage Volante Prince of Wales or PoW for short, needless to say the PoW is now considered as the pinnacle of the V8 range.

Our car is a 1985 Aston Martin V8 Volante with the now iconic, Prince of Wales cosmetic body look.  It is presented in superb condition, subtle and restrained yet bursting with presence. The Volante is delightfully finished in Georgian silver with a beautiful Rich Tan hide interior with a matching Tan hide top-roll, complemented by Oatmeal carpets piped with matching hide. The Mohair power top is also in a Rich Tan ensuring the car is stunning with roof up or down! It is evident that it has been the subject of a recent cosmetic refurbishment to a very high standard, this example must be seen to be fully appreciated. With the hood down it is transformed into an eye-catching luxury car which brings back love and fun into motoring.

The V8 Volante is a true British, gentleman’s muscle car, mixing power with elegance and class. Tremendous power comes from a 5,340 cc V8 engine with four-twin choke Weber carburettors and a 3-speed automatic gearbox provides smooth gear changes allowing for pleasurable, regular use.

Accompanying the car is an original Aston Martin V8 owners manual and photographs of the car after its restoration.

About Aston Martin
Aston Martin, one of Britain's best known sports car manufacturer, was founded in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford.

During its chequered financial history the company has had numerous owners taking over the company, Sir David Brown just to mention one.

Between the wars Bertelli was both technical director and designer of all new Aston Martins, thus known as "Bertelli cars". These included the 1½-litre "T-type", "International", "Le Mans", "MKII" its racing version, the "Ulster", and the 2-litre 15/98 and its race going derivative, the "Speed Model".

During the war years the company produced aircraft components.

In 1947, Aston was purchased and thus saved by Sir David Brown. The company also acquired Lagonda the same year for its 2.6-litre W. O. Bentley-designed engine. Both companies shared resources and workshops creating the iconic "DB" series of cars. In 1950, they presented the DB2, followed by the DB2/4 in 1953, the DB2/4 MkII in 1955, the DB Mark III in 1957.

DB4 with its strong Italian flavor and construction was introduced in 1958. The lightweight superleggera (tube-frame) body was designed by Carrozzeria Touring in Milan. Although the design and construction techniques were Italian, the DB4 was the first Aston to be built at the company's Newport Pagnell works in Buckinghamshire, England. The six-cylinder engines of these cars from 1954 up to 1965 were designed by Tadek Marek. Despite initial problems with cracking engine blocks DB4 was a success that really established the make together with its later derivates DB5, of James Bond Goldfinger fame, and more civilized DB6 Grand Tourer.

With the all new model DBS in the late 60's the company went to eight cylinder configuration when it was modified to Aston Martin v8 – a sort of Gentleman's muscle car.
