Bentley S3 HJ Mulliner Park Ward Drop Head Coupe Chinese eye. 1964

General description : 1965 Bentley S3 HJ Mulliner Park Ward Drop Head Coupe Chinese Eye.
Registration Number: KBY 83C
Chassis number: BC16XD

Concours Condition; The recipient of an massive nut & bolt restoration.

A royal car ordered new by & delivered to His Majesty the King of Denmark.  These are rare machines being one of just 76 such examples built; The Chassis was dispatched from the works in Crewe to HJ Mulliner Park Ward in November of 1964.  Having completed the body work the car then arrived at the Royal stables in April of 1965.

As His Majesty King Frederik IX wished to chauffeur the Bentley himself, it was delivered as a RHD; hence the metric speedometer. When His Majesty disposed of the 1965 Bentley, as the 1969 Model T Bentley DHC made its way into the Royal Household in Copenhagen, the S3 was sold to Professor Suenson, and when he passed away in 1983, Svend K Tholstrup Esq., President of the Kosan Group, purchased the Bentley from the Professor's estate; the automobile has remained in the Tholstrup Family to this date & is now being sold.

Finished in its original colours of deep metallic green, the car has just come out of a fastidious nut & bolt Restoration by the Danish authorised Rolls-Royce agents Bernt Hansen of Copenhagen.  Now the car has arrived with us we are putting a couple of hundred shakedown miles upon it & can report that it is driving beautifullly.  The orginal hood bag comes with the car.  We are also having a duplicate made up in the same green double duck as the hood itself giving the new oner the option to use either.

The car is trimmed in green hide that has been re-dyed to preserve its originality.  All the Burr walnut accents are in beautiful order & are highly figured.  An assortment of pictures come with the car showing it in use by H.M. the King.  This car represents a blue chip investment given its royal pedigree.

About Bentley
Before becoming a mere subsidiary to Rolls-Royce, Bentley was an independent Automaker famous for the "fastest lorries in the world" e.i Bentley 4½ Litre.

Good ol' Bentley boys (A group of wealthy British motorists, mainly Woolf Barnato, Sir Henry "Tim" Birkin, steeplechaser George Duller, aviator Glen Kidston, S.C.H. "Sammy" Davis, and Dr Dudley Benjafield ) -in their trusty Bentley cars- took four consecutive victories at 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1924, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930

In 1931 Bentley was taken over British Central Equitable Trust that later proved to be a front for Rolls-Royce Limited. Unhappy with his role at Rolls-Royce, W.O. Bentley left the company when his contract expired in 1935 duly joining Lagonda. This was beginning of which ultimately led Bentley cars to become more or less badge-engineered Rolls-Royce.
