BMW 525 525i 1995

General description : A well preserved 525i automatic, M50 engine, just 46k miles.

MODEL HISTORY

The BMW E34 is the third generation of the BMW 5 Series, which was sold from 1988 to 1996. It was launched as a saloon; with the range expanded in 1990 to include the "Touring" (estate) body style. The E34 was replaced by the E39 in 1995, although E34 Touring models remained in production until 1996.

There was an unusually large range of engines fitted over its lifetime, as nine different engine families were used. These consisted of 4-cylinder, straight-six, and V8 engines. The 525i, as featured here, was equipped with a 6-cylinder engine. Like the 520i, the 525i was initially powered by the M20 engine, which was later updated to the M50 and M50TU engines. The 525i was the most popular E34 model globally, with 566,573 units produced.

Equipment

Automatic air conditioning (S534), Electrically adjustable front seats (S458), Leather steering wheel (S240), HiFi speaker system (S676), Radio preparation (S687), Passenger front airbag (S243), BMW light alloy wheels (S285), Front and rear electric windows (S411), Self-dimming rear-view mirror (S431), Fog lights (S520), Outdoor temperature indicator (S556), BMW floor mats (S423), Warning triangle (S428), Toolkit, Alloy spare wheel.

EXTERIOR

The smooth lines of the E34 look splendid in gleaming Arctic Silver, a bright yet understated colour that's complemented well by the abundant black trim. The subtle use of chrome around the side windows is another nice touch and makes for a smart finish; the brightwork itself remains in good order. Along both sides the car is straight and free from any major blemishes or signs of corrosion. There are one or two very discreet marks on really close inspection, but aside from that this 46k mile example is extremely well preserved.

INTERIOR

The classic nineties cabin is a lovely place to be. The sculpted cloth seats have really stood the test of time and despite being well over 20 years old still present virtually as new. There is no wear or marking to the upholstery, which remains perfectly supportive and extremely comfortable for those long journeys.

The front seats are electronically adjustable and the windows are electric all round. Other modern comforts such as dual-zone climate control, a self-dimming rear-view mirror, and HiFi system including a CD changer are also present. In the footwells you'll find the original set of BMW overmats in very good condition, and in the boot you'll notice how smaller details such as the rubber floor strips and BMW first aid kit still remain.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

This 525i is equipped with the desirable 24v M50 straight-six, producing 189hp at 5,900rpm. Described as ‘bulletproof' by some this engine is renowned for its longevity and is widely considered as one of BMWs most reliable motors. The under-bonnet area of the E34 is wonderfully clean and certainly constant with the car's low mileage. Power is transferred to the rear wheels by the smooth five-speed automatic transmission. The car will be freshly serviced upon sale for the new keeper's peace of mind.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The original 15-inch wheels are shod in a matching set of Toyo tyres with ample tread remaining. The alloys are in great original condition with only minor age-related wear to note. The centre caps are all present and correct, nicely finished off with the original badges.

HISTORY FILE

The E34 was first registered in September 1995. Present in the history file is an original UK sales brochure and BMW document holder, which includes all the relevant manuals for the 1995 year. Upon arrival at 4 Star the car was fully inspected and subsequently MOT'd. It will be freshly serviced upon sale for the new keeper's peace of mind.

Bayerische Motoren Werke, commonly known as BMW, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1916. Initially established as an aircraft-engine manufacturer during World War I, BMW faced restrictions on aircraft production after the war. In response, the company shifted its focus to motorcycle production in 1923, marking the beginning of its involvement in the automotive industry. Subsequently, BMW entered the world of automobiles in 1928 by producing the DIXI, essentially a licensed version of the Austin 7 from the Austin Motor Company.

In the 1930s, BMW began to establish itself as a manufacturer of elegant and high-performance vehicles. One notable model from this era is the BMW 327, introduced in 1937. The 327 was available as both a coupe and a cabriolet, showcasing the brand's commitment to luxury and style. Additionally, BMW achieved success in sports car racing during this period, particularly with the BMW 328. The 328, which debuted in 1936, became renowned for its performance and aerodynamics. BMW campaigned the 328 in various racing events, including the prestigious Mille Miglia, where the company introduced several aerodynamic specials.

The post-war era proved challenging for BMW, and the company faced financial difficulties that nearly led to bankruptcy. However, BMW managed to recover and rebuild, eventually becoming one of the leading premium automotive brands globally.

As the 1960s unfolded, BMW further solidified its reputation for producing sports-oriented and luxurious vehicles. In 1968, the BMW 2002 was introduced, marking the birth of the "New Class" of compact, sporty sedans. The 2002 gained popularity for its agile handling and performance, laying the foundation for BMW's sporty image.

Moving into the 1970s, BMW expanded its lineup with the introduction of the E9 platform, which included the iconic BMW 3.0 CS coupe. The E9 series showcased BMW's commitment to blending performance and luxury. In 1972, the M1, BMW's first mid-engined sports car, made its debut. The M1 was initially developed as a racing car but later became a road-going model. The M1 laid the groundwork for BMW's high-performance M series.

In the late 1970s, the BMW E24 6 Series was introduced, offering a combination of luxury and performance. The 6 Series included models like the 630CS, 633CSi, and 635CSi, becoming a symbol of sophistication and driving pleasure.

Through these milestones and a commitment to innovation and performance, BMW has evolved into a powerhouse in the automotive industry, maintaining its status as one of the leading premium brands worldwide.
