Exterior

This lovely 1.9 CTi is finished in rare Atlantic Blue metallic. The paintwork presents to an excellent overall standard with a great shine across every panel, the colour appearing either dark green or blue depending on the light. Looking closer around the body commonly faded items such as the rear panel, bumpers and rubbing strips are all in fine fettle with no scrapes or scuffs to report. The lights are also in good order and, being a Phase 2 model, this one is equipped with clear front indicators. The condition of the black soft-top is excellent, and once lowered at the touch of a button it stows away neatly beneath the original tonneau cover. Whether a 1.6 model or the later 1.9 as featured here, all 205 CTis sat on 14-inch ‘pepperpot’ alloy wheels, and on this car they’re perfect. Other nice touches include the supplying dealer number plates and rear window sticker.

Interior

The original cloth upholstery still looks great with no major wear to the bolsters or Quartet centre panels. The seats are comfortable and supportive, the steering wheel feels great in hand, and unlike today’s sporty ‘hatches’ the visibility is excellent. Glancing across the dash there are no loose or broken trims, and all the switchgear works correctly. The carpets are unfaded with a great red hue and both door cards are unmarked. A more modern Kenwood CD player is currently fitted but other than that it’s a very nice and highly original interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The 1.9-litre engine is as zingy and free-revving as ever. At the current mileage of 76k the CTI has just returned from a service and shakedown by our trusted classic car workshop who also happen to be very knowledgeable on Peugeot 205s. After a full mechanical inspection the heater matrix was replaced and the cooling system flushed. The car now goes as well as it looks, pulling very nicely through the gears and handling like a well sorted 205 should.

History File

This cracking example was supplied new by Ballamys of Sussex in March 1992. Now at over 32 years old it has driven just 76k miles in the hands of only 5 registered keepers. The first owner, Mr Middlemiss, kept the car until 1994 when he sold it back to the supplying dealer; his ‘new vehicle handover checklist’ along with the subsequent 1994 Ballamys used car invoice (for £9,999) are both still on file. Ballamys went on to look after the CTI until the year 2000 when servicing was entrusted to a local independent garage. Most of the car’s mileage was covered by the second owner who kept it until 2008, by which time it had already driven about 68k miles.

Within the accompanying History File the lucky new owner will receive the original Peugeot document pack with all handbooks, the original stamped service book, a raft of invoices and documents dating back to March 1992, a selection of MOT certificates, and the current V5C showing only 4 previous keepers.
