Exterior

Having been carefully stored since new the condition of this 740i is exceptional. The Alpine White paintwork is 100% original and maintains a beautiful factory shine throughout. Given just how fresh everything looks and feels it really is hard to believe this car is actually 30 years old. The plastic trims are first-rate and none of the rubber seals show any signs of perishing. She’s arrow-straight along both sides, all the lights are crystal-clear, and the brightwork is excellent. Being very picky there are one or two light marks on the rear bumper to report but these only help to evidence the car’s honesty further. The underside is also amazing and is exactly as you’d expect for such an original 90s BMW with this mileage. What’s more the car has recently been treated to a full cavity wax and clear underside protection to preserve its remarkable condition. A true survivor and likely the lowest mileage E32 740i we’ll ever see.

Interior

The seats are uniquely trimmed in Ultramarine velour, a standard E32 option but special order (“Sonderwunsch”) on a 740i – and we love it. The front seats are fully electric with additional lumbar support, and they’re heated all round including the rears. The car is further equipped with ice-cold climatic air conditioning, an electric sunroof, electric windows and mirrors, cruise control, electronic dampers, traction control, etc, etc.

As with the exterior of the car the condition of the interior is exquisite. The dash and centre console are absolutely spot-on with no loose trims, and the steering wheel feels like new with a perfect grain to the leather. None of the wood trims show any signs of wear and the carpets are spotless throughout. The boot area is also immaculate with the original BMW cloth still present in the toolkit. For modern convenience a tasteful period-style Blaupunkt head unit is fitted with USB and Bluetooth functionality.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

At the heart of the 740i is a 4-litre V8 engine producing an impressive 282hp. Barely run-in with only 5,039 miles under its belt the car is a dream to drive. It has just returned from a full mechanical inspection and health check by our trusted classic car workshop who were most impressed with it. As to be expected the engine bay is extremely clean, tidy, and highly original.

History File

Ordered new in Germany by an English gentleman who passed away before taking delivery, this surely unrepeatable 4.0 V8 E32 was carefully stored by the supplying dealer for first twenty years of its life. Still showing only delivery mileage the car was then purchased by a European collector with whom remained until 2020. It was then recommissioned and enjoyed for a couple of thousand miles before changing hands one final time. The car has now been fully UK-registered by the current owner with all taxes paid on arrival into the country.

The accompanying paperwork comprises original BMW handbooks, an original UK 7 Series brochure, maintenance invoices, import paperwork, spare keys, and the V5C showing 0 former keepers (in the UK).

About BMW

ChatGPT
Bayerische Motoren Werke, commonly known as BMW, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1916. Initially established as an aircraft-engine manufacturer during World War I, BMW faced restrictions on aircraft production after the war. In response, the company shifted its focus to motorcycle production in 1923, marking the beginning of its involvement in the automotive industry. Subsequently, BMW entered the world of automobiles in 1928 by producing the DIXI, essentially a licensed version of the Austin 7 from the Austin Motor Company.

In the 1930s, BMW began to establish itself as a manufacturer of elegant and high-performance vehicles. One notable model from this era is the BMW 327, introduced in 1937. The 327 was available as both a coupe and a cabriolet, showcasing the brand's commitment to luxury and style. Additionally, BMW achieved success in sports car racing during this period, particularly with the BMW 328. The 328, which debuted in 1936, became renowned for its performance and aerodynamics. BMW campaigned the 328 in various racing events, including the prestigious Mille Miglia, where the company introduced several aerodynamic specials.

The post-war era proved challenging for BMW, and the company faced financial difficulties that nearly led to bankruptcy. However, BMW managed to recover and rebuild, eventually becoming one of the leading premium automotive brands globally.

As the 1960s unfolded, BMW further solidified its reputation for producing sports-oriented and luxurious vehicles. In 1968, the BMW 2002 was introduced, marking the birth of the "New Class" of compact, sporty sedans. The 2002 gained popularity for its agile handling and performance, laying the foundation for BMW's sporty image.

Moving into the 1970s, BMW expanded its lineup with the introduction of the E9 platform, which included the iconic BMW 3.0 CS coupe. The E9 series showcased BMW's commitment to blending performance and luxury. In 1972, the M1, BMW's first mid-engined sports car, made its debut. The M1 was initially developed as a racing car but later became a road-going model. The M1 laid the groundwork for BMW's high-performance M series.

In the late 1970s, the BMW E24 6 Series was introduced, offering a combination of luxury and performance. The 6 Series included models like the 630CS, 633CSi, and 635CSi, becoming a symbol of sophistication and driving pleasure.

Through these milestones and a commitment to innovation and performance, BMW has evolved into a powerhouse in the automotive industry, maintaining its status as one of the leading premium brands worldwide.
