Exterior

The Diamantschwarz paintwork presents very well indeed after a full detail and machine polish on arrival with us. A deep metallic shine is retained throughout and we’re pleased to report that the body is free from any swirl marks or major blemishes. At the front end there are remarkably few stone chips and she’s nice and straight along both sides with no notable car park dings. The headlights are clear and undamaged, and the window glass is BMW-etched all round. The exterior is lifted further with Sport Evo-style bumper stripes in red and split-rim BBS wheels that fill the arches perfectly.

Interior

The original bison leather upholstery has worn very well with no major wear or damage to the deeply supportive bolsters. Having never been reconnolised the upholstery still feels soft and supple with only some expected wrinkles to evidence the car’s 107k miles from new. The original M Tech II steering wheel has a great textured finish to the rim and the dash is free from any cracks or distortion from the sun. In the footwells you’ll find tailored M-embroidered overmats protecting the carpets. All in all a very well presented and original interior, the only upgrades over standard being an aftermarket head unit and later-style M leather gear knob with the correct dogleg shift pattern.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

A real treat for the enthusiast, the engine bay looks great. Much like the interior it has a very original appearance having never required any restorative work, there are even traces of the yellowish factory wax still present. The mechanicals of the car have just been inspected by our trusted classic car workshop who also found the underside to be in very good solid condition with no corrosion issues. Since arriving in the UK from Japan in 2017 the car has been serviced three times, all at Sytner BMW and most recently in February 2023 at 173,381km / 107,734 miles.

History File

Built in July 1990 this example is one of only 1,512 EU-spec catalyst-equipped 215hp E30 M3s produced. Supplied new to its first owner in Germany the car was exported to Japan in the mid-90s where it resided until 2017 before finally landing in the UK. Since arriving over here the car has been serviced three times by Sytner BMW. For the new keeper’s peace of mind a full vehicle health check has just been carried out, the car wanting for little more than a new battery, front ball joint gaiters and some bulbs.

The accompanying History File is complete with a thick raft of UK and Japanese invoice paperwork, a supplementary UK E30 M3 owners’ manual, service booklet, and the V5C showing 2 former keepers.

About BMW

ChatGPT
Bayerische Motoren Werke, commonly known as BMW, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1916. Initially established as an aircraft-engine manufacturer during World War I, BMW faced restrictions on aircraft production after the war. In response, the company shifted its focus to motorcycle production in 1923, marking the beginning of its involvement in the automotive industry. Subsequently, BMW entered the world of automobiles in 1928 by producing the DIXI, essentially a licensed version of the Austin 7 from the Austin Motor Company.

In the 1930s, BMW began to establish itself as a manufacturer of elegant and high-performance vehicles. One notable model from this era is the BMW 327, introduced in 1937. The 327 was available as both a coupe and a cabriolet, showcasing the brand's commitment to luxury and style. Additionally, BMW achieved success in sports car racing during this period, particularly with the BMW 328. The 328, which debuted in 1936, became renowned for its performance and aerodynamics. BMW campaigned the 328 in various racing events, including the prestigious Mille Miglia, where the company introduced several aerodynamic specials.

The post-war era proved challenging for BMW, and the company faced financial difficulties that nearly led to bankruptcy. However, BMW managed to recover and rebuild, eventually becoming one of the leading premium automotive brands globally.

As the 1960s unfolded, BMW further solidified its reputation for producing sports-oriented and luxurious vehicles. In 1968, the BMW 2002 was introduced, marking the birth of the "New Class" of compact, sporty sedans. The 2002 gained popularity for its agile handling and performance, laying the foundation for BMW's sporty image.

Moving into the 1970s, BMW expanded its lineup with the introduction of the E9 platform, which included the iconic BMW 3.0 CS coupe. The E9 series showcased BMW's commitment to blending performance and luxury. In 1972, the M1, BMW's first mid-engined sports car, made its debut. The M1 was initially developed as a racing car but later became a road-going model. The M1 laid the groundwork for BMW's high-performance M series.

In the late 1970s, the BMW E24 6 Series was introduced, offering a combination of luxury and performance. The 6 Series included models like the 630CS, 633CSi, and 635CSi, becoming a symbol of sophistication and driving pleasure.

Through these milestones and a commitment to innovation and performance, BMW has evolved into a powerhouse in the automotive industry, maintaining its status as one of the leading premium brands worldwide.
