Exterior

Looking every bit the 80s icon this rare 280 ‘Brooklands’ presents in stunning unmodified condition. The beautiful Brooklands Green paintwork maintains an excellent depth of shine, a uniform green/blue hue, and a sharp metallic flake with no signs of corrosion in any of the common weak spots. She’s arrow-straight along both sides and the panel gaps are spot-on. Having clearly been garaged all the plastic trims and rubber seals around the car remain in fine fettle with no perishing or damage to report. The lights are crystal-clear and free from moisture ingress, and the pinstripes are perfect. The final iteration of the iconic Ford Capri and a magnificent example at that.

Interior

A real treat for the enthusiast, the 280’s interior boasts Recaro sports seats in full Raven leather with subtle red piping. The upholstery presents to an excellent standard throughout with only a small amount of expected surface wear to the deep outer bolsters. The leather has never been re-trimmed or re-connolised and so remains in 100% original condition with just the right level of patina in our opinion. The complementing vinyl door cards and leather steering wheel are immaculate, and in the footwells the carpets are pristine and complete with a set of spotless tailored overmats. The headlining is also perfect, and there are no cracks or signs of sun damage across the dash, the only negatives to report here being a few small marks on the ash tray lid. At the rear of the car the boot carpet is free from stains and the original parcel shelf is still present and without any aftermarket speakers or holes.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

As with the rest of the car, the engine bay is remarkably clean and tidy, not overly dressed but in excellent original condition with no rust, damage, or signs of previous poor repair. Barely run-in with only 20k miles on the clock, the 2.8-litre V6 fires into life first turn of the key, idles smoothly up to temperature, and pulls strongly through the gears. Some recent mechanical work includes a major service, new exhaust, clutch, auxiliary drive belts, and a new fuel tank with a new sender unit and fuel pump.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

Being a 280 this one sits on special 15-inch alloy wheels, all in perfect unmarked condition. They are shod in a newly fitted set of premium Goodyear tyres (including the spare) with next to no wear. The brakes have also been checked and remain in fine operational condition having recently been treated to new pads and discs at the front and new cylinders at the rear.

History File

First registered in September 1987 and supplied new by Trimoco Ford in Dunstable this outstanding example has now driven only 20k miles in the hands of just 4 registered keepers. The previous owner had the car for over 29 years although it was rarely driven to preserve both its low mileage and amazing condition. Since purchasing the Capri in 2021 the current owner – a very good client of ours with a fantastic collection of his own – has had the car fully recommissioned ready for its next adventure. In addition to a full service, it benefits from 5 new tyres, all new brakes, a new exhaust, fuel tank, sender unit, fuel pump, and a new clutch. The original Trimoco document wallet is still present along with the owner’s manuals and dealer-stamped service booklet. The original ‘E280’ registration number is also retained. A limited amount of additional paperwork is with the car but the condition really speaks for itself.

About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.
