Mini Other 1979

This example of the only Mini Cabrio made its first drive in the Netherlands in 1979. Afterwards, the car was bought by an aficionado who thoroughly restored the car and converted it into a cabriolet. An extensive photographic report of this conversion is present. In 1987, the car was presented to the Dutch national traffic and safety administration (RDW), which issued an ‘approval for restricted mass production’. After the conversion the car was rarely used. In 25 years, the car drove 5,000 km, with beautiful weather only. Additional supporting beams, compensating for the loss of strength as a result of the removal of the roof, have ensured that the excellent driving qualities of the Mini were retained. The Mini features a dashboard and a steering wheel both made in wood. The alloy Dunlop rims are fitted with tyres which have been on the road for less than 1000 km. As shown on the pictures, the car is fitted with a tonneau cover.
