Exterior

Fresh from a full check over and light re-commissioning at the current mileage of only 68k, this lovely 1.9 GTI is ready to be driven and enjoyed. And, as a Phase 1.5 model with no sunroof or power steering, it’s also the most collectable specification. The Alpine White paintwork has polished up beautifully and other than a few minor age-related marks the body remains in fantastic original condition. Filling the arches are the correct 15-inch Speedline alloys, all immaculate with brand new tyres Toyo all round.

Interior

Having never been restored the car retains its original half-leather upholstery, and being a 1990 car this one sports black and red ‘Quartet’ trim. The driver’s bolster is in great shape with only some expected surface wear, the carpets are original, and even the factory Clarion cassette radio remains in place having never been swapped out for an aftermarket CD player. The dash and centre console are free from any marks and the delicate coin holder lid pops up exactly as it should. The steering wheel feels perfect in hand with an excellent grain to the leather, and the rear parcel shelf is undamaged with no unsightly speaker holes.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The car has just returned from a full mechanical inspection by our trusted classic car workshop who are very knowledgeable on 205 GTIs. The car received a service and cambelt change before coming to us but has been given an additional pre-sales shakedown for the new keeper’s peace of mind. The engine bay is well presented and we’re pleased to report that this is one of the best driving GTIs we’ve had the pleasure of selling; the 1.9-litre engine is as zingy and free-revving as ever, and the gearbox still feels tight.

History File

This lovely 1.9 GTI was supplied new by Olds Peugeot, Yeovil, in September 1990. In the hands of only 4 registered keepers it has now driven just 68k miles from new. Following on from some time in storage the car has been serviced and MOT’d with a new cambelt, water pump, fuel pressure regulator, starter motor, and four new Toyo tyres, so she’s good to go. We have driven dozens of 205s over the years and we’re pleased to report that this one goes particularly well, feeling every bit the low mileage.
