Porsche 944 Lux 1985

General description : A 3 owner 944 Lux, Sapphire Metallic with just 67k miles.

MODEL HISTORY

The 944 was introduced for sale in 1982 and ran on for 10 years. It came in either a coupe 2+2 body or a very attractive Cabriolet. It was Porsche's mid range sports car positioned between the 924 and 911. It used a rear-wheel drive water-cooled 4-cylinder engine mounted at the front of the car. The gearbox was mounted at the rear providing better weight distribute, which in turn resulted in one of the best handling cars to come out of the 80's.

The aim of the car was to provide a luxurious long distance cruiser as well as an exciting powerful road car. Its body was based upon the 924 Carrera GT; like the 924 it had a sloping glass hatchback that provided a practical luggage storage area. The sunroof was a popular option as it was a removable metal panel that provided a near Targa-like open road experience.

Equipment

Metallic paint, Electric tilt/removable sunroof, Headlamp washers, Rear window wiper, CD player, Tinted glass, Leather steering wheel, Electric windows, Sports seats, Front fog lights, Fuchs style anodised wheels, Original ‘Teledial' wheels, Alarm, Spare keys.

EXTERIOR

Finished in rare Sapphire Metallic, this lovely 944 remains in fantastic condition and looks stunning with its lowered stance and deep dish wheels. Other than a few marks to the front spoiler and the usual stone chips to the sills the car presents really nicely. It is not a flawless example but is extremely well preserved and is free from any dents or prominent scratches. The paintwork is good throughout with no visible corrosion to note.

INTERIOR

The 944 cabin presents beautifully and remains entirely original aside from the addition of a Sony CD player. The black leatherette and pinstripe cloth combination still looks marvelous by today's standards. The seats are in near perfect condition and show no signs of any wear to the bolsters or centres. The black carpet throughout is in excellent order as are the door cards and dash. The boot area is also clean and is still fitted with its handy privacy blind.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The Porsche comes with an excellent service history so it is clearly evident that it has been very well looked after from new. Since arriving at 4 Star it has been fully inspected and has a clean bill of health. The engine pulls well through the gears and the gearbox feels tight and precise.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The 944 sits on a new set of Fuchs style wheels with satin black centres and striking anodised rims. They are in perfect condition and are sporting the correct Porsche centre caps. The alloys are shod in a recent set of Continental tyres with ample tread remaining. The brakes too have plenty of meat left.

HISTORY FILE

The 944 was first registered on 17th October 1985, and was supplied new by Swinford Motors. The supplying dealer went on to service the car annually for the next six years. From 1990-2004 the regular maintenance was carried out by well-regarded Porsche specialist, Two Plus Two Ltd. Given the car's limited use in recent years the maintenance has been less consistent although recent work has been carried out to bring the car up to scratch.

Present in the history file is a raft of invoices for service work and general maintenance over the years. Numerous MOT certificates are included as is the Porsche document pack, owner's manual, and stamped service booklet. An original sales brochure completes the paperwork. The service history is as follows:

About Porsche 944
While the Porsche 944 shares some similarities with the Porsche 924, it is not accurate to say that the 944 is simply a 924 turned into a real sports car. The Porsche 944 was designed as a successor to the Porsche 924, but it featured significant changes and improvements that set it apart from its predecessor.

One of the most significant changes was the introduction of a new engine. While the Porsche 924 was powered by an Audi-sourced engine, the Porsche 944 featured a Porsche-designed inline-four engine, which was based on the engine from the Porsche 924 Carrera GT. The engine was mounted in the front of the car, but was located further back in the chassis than in the 924, which helped to improve handling and balance.

The Porsche 944 also featured a revised suspension system, with a wider track and a more advanced rear suspension setup than the 924. These changes helped to improve the car's handling and make it more responsive and agile.

Additionally, the Porsche 944 featured a revised body design, with a more aerodynamic shape and a more aggressive look than the 924. The car was also available with a range of performance upgrades, including a turbocharged engine and a range of sport suspension and brake packages.

Overall, while the Porsche 944 may have shared some components with the Porsche 924, it was a significant improvement over its predecessor and is widely regarded as a genuine Porsche sports car in its own right.
